Arkansas voted for a federal constitutional convention to ban marriage equality

Source: Associated Press

By ANDREW DeMILLO, Associated Press · Wednesday, March 1, 2017

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The Arkansas Senate on Tuesday endorsed a long-shot effort to push for amending the U.S. Constitution to effectively ban gay marriage and abortion, a move one Republican lawmaker said is needed to overturn rulings from the nation’s highest court.

The majority-Republican chamber approved by a 19-9 vote a resolution calling for a federal constitutional convention to take up an amendment that would define marriage as between a man and a woman. A separate resolution calling for an amendment effectively declaring that life begins at conception passed on an 18-9 vote.

“This is a day where the Arkansas Senate stood up for life and stood up for natural marriage between a man and a woman and also it will encourage people around the nation,” said Republican Sen. Jason Rapert, who sponsored the resolutions.

The resolutions, which now head to the House, are modeled after an effort among Republicans nationwide to call for a “convention of the states” to take up a federal balanced budget amendment. Twenty-eight states, including Arkansas, have passed balanced budget convention resolutions. Rapert said he did not know if any states have passed similar resolutions on gay marriage or abortion.

Let the Arkansas R's waste their time on this, it won't happen. At least if they're doing this, they're not pushing things that have a good chance of hurting people.

And give prohibition another try. That worked so well in the 1920s.

We must focus on local elections as in State Reps, State Senators, and Governors.

I approve wholeheartedly. If the ReligiousRighteous funnels their bile into this effort, it will keep them busy for years and keep them distracted from doing things that really will harm the LGBT community. The politicians can create all the sound & fury that their base craves, and nothing will come of it.

I mean, I even read it here, several times that the civil rights movement, if you can call it "civil rights", for the GLBT population was over with the SC decision legalizing same-sex marriage. You mean I have been misinformed?!

Just in case, this is EXTREME , actually it is disdain.

This type of shit is happening all over the country and not just in the South. It is simply another version of "fag bashing" except there are thousands of victims at once. While other news is happening, the assault on the LGBT community is largely going unnoticed.

Of course I stuck to people I liked, but my circle was very small. I would hazard a guess that 80% of the white people I knew were racist Pussy Grabber supporters.

And state politics? Well-- I guess that's what this OP is about. Jason Rapert is a little man-bitch. . . On 2nd thought, he isn't so little. Maybe a fat little man-bitch? I cannot STAND him.

Of course the state is FULL of reprehensible politicians. . .

Senator Tom Cotton
Senator John Boozman
Governor Asa Hutchinson
Secretary of State Leslie Rutledge
State Senator Jason Rapert

Now one can rag on Bill Clinton for a bunch of things, but NOBODY can honestly claim Bill is a fool. On the contrary, every person listed above is a fucking MORON.
