Judge orders stiff sentences for two in Douglasville hate crime

As the defendants wept, a Douglas County judge on Monday sentenced two people to lengthy prison terms for their part in disrupting an African-American birthday party with Confederate flags, racial slurs and armed threats in 2015.

Superior Court Judge William McClain castigated the two, Kayla Rae Norton, 25, and Jose Ismael Torres, 26, for perpetrating what he called a hate crime.

He sentenced Torres to 20 years, with 13 to serve in prison. Norton was given 15 years, with six to serve. Upon their release, McClain ordered them to be permanently banished from Douglas County.

Douglas Assistant District Attorney David Emadi detailed how the group had gone on a drunken rampage through Douglas and Paulding counties on July 24 and July 25, 2015, in pickup trucks laden with Confederate battle flags. Emadi said the group threatened black motorists, yelled at them and walked up to one of their cars with a gun. They also threatened African-American shoppers at a Paulding County Wal-Mart and at a convenience store.

They're not so "superior" when they're not intimidating children in a big fucking truck, are they?

Actions have consequences. Serious ones. Bravo, Judge William McClain & Asst. District Attorney David Emadi. Hatred will be met with justice--even in the Dark Times of Dolt 45*

On edit: Here's an interesting quote from one of the defendants that was in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution article. It's a tragedy that she didn't stop and think of that before she and her fellow bigots decided to go on that drunken, hate-filled rampage:

“I do accept responsibility for what I’ve done,” Norton said, often choking on her words as she spoke directly to the group. “What happened to you is absolutely awful. From mother to mother, I cannot imagine having to explain what that word means.”

She'll have a lot of quiet time to think about just that for the next 4-5 years.

9. Is the banishment legal though? I mean unless its part of a plea bargain how can the court legally

get that past the appeals courts down the road as once they have served their time and are not under the governments control I thought that people have freedom movement on where to live for the most part? Now I know sexual predators have to register and such with law enforcement but even they cannot legally be banned from an entire county.

All this time and resources to deal with JUST TWO wannabe white supremacist terrorists who just thought this might be fun because they had nothing better to do (and also thought that our society condoned/encouraged this type of behavior).
