Spicer Says Religious Liberty Is Getting 'Pushed Out' By Political Correctness

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said on Thursday that freedom of religion is getting "pushed out in the name of political correctness," and cited Christian organizations as examples of groups which have been silenced.
"Some Americans see religious liberty as code for discrimination," a reporter asked Spicer at a daily briefing. "Can you comment, give us a sense of how the President views this tension?"
"I think there is a line," Spicer said."I think people should be able to practice their religion, express their religion, express areas of their faith without reprisal. And I think that pendulum sometimes swings the other way in the name of political correctness."
He said that "too often" small business owners and employees are not allowed to express their faiths.

(100,107 posts)If religious liberty was being "pushed out", then why do we as DirectTV subscribers get 32 channels of non stop 24/7 religious programming included with our subscription, but we atheists only get one hour per week of Real Time With Bill Maher? Explain to me that, oh persecuted ones!

(455 posts)So.... the grossly negligent PA parents who recently let their 2 year old die from lack of medical care and simple pneumonia, citing it as "God's will", should just be allowed to go about their merry business?
Pro-birth nutjobs who shoot up abortion clinics should just go free because it's their "sincere religious belief" that they do so?
People should be allowed to assault gays, fire women for taking birth control, hang up signs on their businesses that say "whites only" or deny people the right to marry because that person's interpretation of a mythological sky god doesn't care for those things?
F*ck "political correctness". Freedom of religion stops at your f*cking nose- the minute someone else becomes involved they have rights too.
Religion is an invented social construct. Doctrine can be made to say anything as we are the ones writing it- and the wording of their "religious protection order" draft included language stating that it is the individuals, not the organized religions, sincerely held belief.
This will backfire. Bigly. I can already smell the Satanic Church and Pastafarian lawsuits.

(8,361 posts)the question - Does a business have the right to discriminate against an employee by denying their right to birth control which is consistent with their employee's beliefs?

(3,208 posts)but I thought "faith" was the idea that you believed in a God even though you could not see it or prove it? So how is telling others what to do with their bodies or who they can marry related to expressing a faith?
How can a church play the politics game and not be in on paying taxes? I have always thought that a church would want to pay taxes so their communities have good schools, roads and fire departments. A church should only be tax exempt to the point where they can show they are helping people. It is pretty obvious the megachurches aren't helping people, they are just collecting the money for themselves.

How so? Her daughter, a professor, is not allowed to talk about religion in her class.
Is she a professor of religion? No. Philosophy? No. How is she not allowed? She was asked not to go there by her dept. chair.
Are we being burned out of our churches, rounded up into camps, forbidden to go to church? No.
The victim mind is strong with these folks, because it works. Poor things.

I have to give the JWs credit, because separation of church and state is actually built into their religion.

(17,021 posts)Last time I checked you can pray anywhere, anytime, anyplace. I've even seen people pray in restaurants. I realize they want a Christian nation but the founding fathers were very, very, clear about separation of church and state.

(5,914 posts)"Render unto Caesar..." Matthew 22:21.
"When you pray, go into your room..." Matthew 6:6.
This is back-of-the-envelope theology. If you actually read the Bible, you will find it tells a very different story from what the fundamentalist "Christians" profess. The whole Bible presents a detailed story of people trying to get closer to God, how they failed repeatedly despite numerous attempts, and how they had a new hope when someone came along that really had it all figured out.
