Obama to deliver farewell address in Chicago on January 10

Source: Reuters

By Jeff Mason | HONOLULU

U.S. President Barack Obama will deliver a farewell address on Jan. 10 to reflect on his time in office and say thank you to his supporters, he said in an email statement released on Monday.

Obama, noting that the first president of the United States, George Washington, had penned a farewell address in 1796, said he would deliver his speech in his hometown of Chicago.

"I'm thinking about (the remarks) as a chance to say thank you for this amazing journey, to celebrate the ways you've changed this country for the better these past eight years, and to offer some thoughts on where we all go from here," he said.

Republican Donald Trump will be sworn in to office on Jan. 20. During his campaign for the White House, Trump pledged to undo many of Obama's signature policy measures, including his healthcare law.

I really really really want to go too, but I kind of can't imagine standing in line at McCormick Place for hours on end in the middle of January. I can only think people will be lining up and camping overnight to get these. I may have to stay at home and watch on TV.

I always use the white house.gov live stream to avoid all the media com mentors. https://www.whitehouse.gov/

Obama said, will archive his white house website with all the records, and the presidents twitter. website will be online but clearly marked as not trumps white house website. Almost like yesterday when Obama moved in and had to upgrade all websites, get DOI off paper maps! computerize build a mapping system, remove the 3foot thick paper files! our Veterans were stuck with for their medical care. upgrade everything.

And now Republicans will take over a modern system Obama built for America and Americans.

Farewell Address

President Obama Will Deliver His Farewell Address on January 10

“On Tuesday, January 10, I'll go home to Chicago to say my grateful farewell to you.”
– President Obama

My farewell address

In 1796, as George Washington set the precedent for a peaceful, democratic transfer of power, he also set a precedent by penning a farewell address to the American people. And over the 220 years since, many American presidents have followed his lead.

On Tuesday, January 10, I’ll go home to Chicago to say my grateful farewell to you, even if you can’t be there in person.

I’m just beginning to write my remarks. But I’m thinking about them as a chance to say thank you for this amazing journey, to celebrate the ways you’ve changed this country for the better these past eight years, and to offer some thoughts on where we all go from here.

Since 2009, we’ve faced our fair share of challenges, and come through them stronger. That’s because we have never let go of a belief that has guided us ever since our founding — our conviction that, together, we can change this country for the better.

So I hope you’ll join me one last time.

Because, for me, it’s always been about you.

And you can bet they will try to take all the credit for it come noon on 1/20.

They will take credit for all of PBO's successes and blame him for all of their failures.

I don't think there'll be enough, though. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. I'll miss him and Michelle so much.

the Republican Congress did everything they could to obstruct and deny. We still have a SCOTUS seat to be filled. God only knows who Trump will want to nominate, perhaps Rush Limbaugh. But for all of their obstruction, Obama got way more done than was to be expected. Of course the Republicans are in maneuvers to dismantle not only the ACA, but all the gains Obama has made over the last 8 years. We're in dire straits folks. We have to fight.
