The 23rd batch of emails from the account of Hillary Clintons campaign chair, John Podesta, have been published online by WikiLeaks.
More than 36,000 emails from Podestas account have been released by the whistleblowing site, which has vowed to publish a total of 50,000 emails before the US presidential election on November 8.
On Saturday, the emails revealed comments from Clinton adviser Neera Tanden, in which she expressed her lack of faith in the Clintons judgement, as well as concerns from Hill columnist Brent Budowsky, who has featured prominently in the leaked emails, regarding the suitability of her candidacy.

In an email exchange between Chelsea Clinton and Podesta released Sunday, the two are writing to arrange a group meeting and go on to discuss technology and security concerns when traveling in China.

Here is a story from Russia Today. I think it illustrates how the Russians are taking a page from Fox News and coupling it with materials gleaned from Russian hackers to push stories that drive the U.S. MSM news narrative. Think of Fox News pushing stories about Acorn, and now you have Russia Today sending out a steady flow of stolen e-mails.
This will ultimately be incorporated into the Trump campaign and U.S. media outlet, but the story that is missing is the rapid coordination between hackers, wikileaks, then the dissemination and editorializing provided by Russia Today for the benefit of the Trump campaign. Russia Today even creates hashtag handles to make sure their followers get the latest round of e-mails that have been disclosed.
Now, if you are holding your breath for Russia Today to release similar materials relating to the Trump campaign, you are in for a long wait.

(17,387 posts)The Clinton campaign e-mails are hacked by Russians, appear on Wikileaks (a third party outlet), then are immediately categorized and distributed through Russia Today.
There are a lot of stories that sort of discuss this in passing reference, but think about how Fox News tried to make something out of President Obama's connections with Saul Alinsky or Reverand Wright. Yet. you have this current and ongoing propaganda effort by a foreign actor, and the media has been fairly muted in its coverage.
My take is the United State MSM ultimately cannot resist the ratings associated with jumping on the RT bandwagon, so watch this RT story get plagiarized by the U.S. media along with same editorializing.

(2,795 posts)Russia probably has been holding the best for last. Unload all of that this week on top of the FBI letter hoping for the kill shot.
I am so disgusted by this. I guess we are the ones thinking more will be dropped on Trump but it's the other way around.
Did we underestimate the thuggery of the whole Trump circle? Did the Clinton camp underestimate their thuggery as well?

(2,795 posts)I want something so damning to be dropped on him. He is such a horrible, deceitful, sleazy person - how can there not be something yuge? He must have spent a fortune in non-disclusures on simply everyone he comes in contact with.

(3,251 posts)You guys are so transparent.
But it's not going to be the landslide we all hoped for - especially for the down ballot races.
All of this in and of itself would not rattle me, but the media is no help to the election. Anything that is even the slightest bit controversial in the emails will be combined with the FBI letter and the assholes in the media will blow it up.

(8,574 posts)But they're being ridiculous. Your commentary after the snip makes it clear that the article was NOT posted to criticize HRC or Dems, but to analyze the flow of propaganda. C'mon, people.
BTW, I voted that this post did not break the rules, and that the alerter was not acting in good faith.

(17,387 posts)...and I am not going to post them all of them. However, lets not minimize or ignore the fact that the Russians are taking an active role in this election in unprecedented fasion. Russia Today is clearly a propaganda outlet, and its editorial decisions are designed to advance Russian interests. Also, U.S. media outlets facilitate this by jumping on the same narratives advanced by RT.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/report-u-s-officials-investigating-russias-attempts-to-influence-2016-election/
Intelligence and law enforcement officials are investigating how and to what extent Russia is attempting to influence the United States presidential election, according to a new report.
The Washington Post reported Monday that the new probe is underway with James Clapper, the director of national intelligence, heading the efforts.
This is something of concern for the DNI, Charles Allen, a former longtime CIA officer, told the Post. It is being addressed.
The move to further investigate Russias attempts to influence U.S. politics comes after a series of high-profile hacks into party committee servers as well as state elections systems.

(1,429 posts)But we are bickering over nothing. We both agree Trump is a fucking threat to world stability, besides the fact he empowers the racist, homophobic, sexist and religious loons who make up 35% plus of the USA.
He and his nazi legions must be CRUSHED.

(614 posts)such fretting, such pearl clutching. fetch the smelling salts!
first of all, wikileaks does NOT solicit specific documents; they only accept whatever anyone sends their way, and even then they vet for authenticity on all of them. and assange has no access to the sources, so even if it was the russians, he would not know.
(plus, fwiw, RT hosts numbers of great progressives, inc. ed schultz, thom hartmann, chris hedges, etc. perspective is a good thing; facts even better.)
the fact that these have all been dem emails does not say anything about assange; he hates both candidates. he must not be getting anything leaked on the GOP, and certainly not on trump. hell, the MSM news on trump is pretty damning, so what would that even look like?
also, while true that the DOJ has a rule not to expose such materials near an election, that is not a rule that applies to wikileaks. that this should not have been released so close to 11/8 is a point that can be made, but it can't be driven, well, anywhere, let alone home.
as for concerns that anyone - even russia! (where are those smelling salts??) - would dare to interfere with american elections is, well, pretty rich. i'm not condoning it, but the fact is, the US has meddled in more international elections than anyone can count, and that includes in the present admin. so for any citizen, even a dem citizen, to complain about this is the height of hypocrisy; US interference in other countries' elections has been rampant for over a half century, under both parties, and it has been done in our name. this is NOT to condone it, i repeat, but we have zero legs to stand on in taking that position.
plus, i can find the counter-argument to the DOJ position against releasing sensitive info near election day pretty compelling. just a minor example: emails in the bush admin planning to punish us attys for not filing voter fraud cases represent the sort of thing i feel should be released. etc.
which brings me to the second point, which is that - hate to break it to you folks, but - these emails and their content appear to be the real deal. they're authentic, and these exchanges and perspectives and opinions and so on all really occurred. period. to complain about the source and their motives is to kill the messenger. to complain about the content as 'unfair' is utter foolishness.
the point is, we need to look at these facts squarely, as they offer us the gift of seeing inside the sausage factory. we always suspected these things go on, but looking at it forces us to accept it and confront it, head on. no more can we sigh and content ourselves with the delusion that this is the sort of thing only republicans do, dems would never stoop so low. who amongst us is still suffering this delusion? seriously; you do so at the peril of the country, as despite how 'minor' these things appear to be compared to what we know the GOP has done ad nauseam, that comparison does not alter the fact that, just for instance, it is WRONG for brazille to have handed HRC a debate question. do not let yourself go there; it spells doom.
but, watch for the elite establishment inside the party to start showing their annoyance with having to face a public that can no longer be led around by that myth. this will force them to be humble and to listen. because, we now have their number. and we damn well better use it.
as for all this email kerfuffle being so close to the election, it looks like it may well backfire in comey's general direction when all he was trying to do apparently was not screw with the outcome, but simply cover his ass wrt more house hearings. i can't say as i blame him on that count, but it looks like he let them get to him. this new data point about chaffetz being involved early on, just makes it all worse, but it's as big a mess on the republican plates as it is the dems. which, of course, makes for great tv. snark.
so, you know, perspective; keep it.
