Donald Trump refuses to say whether he'll accept election results
Source: CNN
"I will look at it at the time," Trump said when challenged during the final presidential debate on his claims that the election is "rigged" against him. He added: "I will keep you in suspense."
The comments at the Las Vegas showdown marked an extraordinary departure from one of the most fundamental principles of American democracy: the peaceful transfer of power after an election. The remarks were also a dramatic departure from the first hour of the debate, where Trump showed unusual restraint as he and Clinton engaged in substantial policy discussions over issues such as the Supreme Court, the Second Amendment and gun rights.
Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee who is leading Trump in most polls, said the Republican nominee's remarks were "horrifying."
"You are not up to doing the job," Clinton charged, claiming that every time events do not turn out in his favor, Trump claimed things were "rigged" against him. She highlighted Trump's past comments lamenting results of the Iowa caucuses, legal judgments against him -- even Trump's complaints when he did not win an Emmy.

(9,888 posts)keeping people hanging on his "decision" in mind. There's really not much he can do and he knows it, but he's having fun stringing everybody along in the meantime.
Litigation isn't some free space where he can waltz in and say, "That nasty woman rigged the election," and expect to go anywhere.

(43,146 posts)but were politicized in 2000, and in some respects in maybe 10% of
jurisdictions, they are as divided policy wise as the politicians in
Washington. There are Democratic and Republican appointed judges.
I still don't think they would have much tolerance for litigation of
an election that is widely decisive.

(81,228 posts)Evidently, that ONE line - "I'll look at it at the time" - just mowed down anything else he might have done that could have helped him.
"A disqualifying comment." That, from GOPers Steve Schmidt and also Nicolle Wallace.
"Unprecedented." "An unthinkable moment." "An attack on the foundational elements of democracy." "It's lights-out for him." "It swamps everything else." SHEESH. "We are so far out of normalcy on this that there are no words to describe it." "Nothing but a rout by Hillary Clinton all through here." "His coaches did a good job but they just didn't have a lot to work with."
And THEN, once again, she headed straight for the audience to say hello and shake hands and thank people for coming. He and his entourage made a beeline for their motorcade.
And then, Brian Williams cut to Hugh Hewitt, who looks like somebody just ran over his dog.
"Outside the norms of political rhetoric."

(21,753 posts)Here we are, the United States Of America, with a history of over two hundred years of Democratic elections, from the dog catcher to the President, and this F'ing Asshat, has a temper tantrum meltdown and declares to his followers and to the world at large that the whole thing is a rigged con game.
Do they know that the countries around the world, that we have been scolding to be more democratic, to hold fair elections, are watching this cry baby denounce our whole system.

(290 posts)They simply don't care. It's their guy who's gone down in flames, so they have two options. One, they accept that they made a horrendous mistake in even entertaining this person's disaster of a campaign, or two, they assert that there's nothing wrong with him, it's the entire system that's rigged/broken/unfair.
The first option implies self-awareness, introspection, and maturity. Trumpanzees lack these qualities in spades. So they flip for option two, because that means they didn't make a mistake, and they get to give themselves virtuous airs for being on the right side of history.
Meanwhile, if the rest of the world looks on and is utterly aghast at this trainwreck, that's irrelevant to them. Never mind the fact that they've been saying (absurdly) that on Obama's watch the US has become a laughingstock, is no longer respected, etc.
The mental gymnastics required to be a hardcore Trumpanzee are really something, aren't they?

(17,387 posts)With all of the behind the scene chatter about a new media outlet, why not use election night as a launching point catering to the alt-right fringe heading by the self-proclaim real U.S. President. The alt-right will love it, and he may get funding from Russia given the instability it could create with Trump declaring that he is effectively a President in Exile.

(1,254 posts)It won't matter to Americans. Usually on ELECTION NIGHT, the loser gives a concession speech, but NOT PRIMADONNA DONNIE, HE will hold off as long as he can FOR THE MEDIA ATTENTION. Suspense? More like soap opera drama. Trump is too stupid to realize he has become a braying jackass!

(1,254 posts)Come out with a concession but blame his loss on the GOP. Rub their losses in their face. Some suggest that Trumps will spend the next years starting his own party. Trump has to have the last word. This goes back to the Press Corp. dinner a couple of years ago where Obama embarrassed and humiliated Trump in front of the world. This charade was Trump's plot for revenge....follow Obama into the White House. And he is probably already plotting his revenge on the Clintons and GOP. Jerry Falwell Jr., President of Liberty U. told some press a few days ago that Trump told him that he, Donald, believed it was the GOP who leaked that Entertainment Tonight Bus Debacle tape to the Press.
Who cares if he accepts the results or not. Nov 9, 2016, Hillary Clinton will be the President elect of the United States, and Trump will return to his arrogant, narcissistic, sociopath life of cheating on workers, wives, and taxes....but again the question is...
WHO CARES IF TRUMP DOES NOT ACCEPT THE ELECTION RESULTS...FUCK HIM
