WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) Hillary Clinton's top adviser said the FBI is investigating Russia's possible role in hacking thousands of his personal emails, an intrusion he said Donald Trump's campaign may have been aware of in advance.
If true, the assertion from Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta would amount to an extraordinary link between Russia and an American presidential campaign. Podesta said the alleged ties could be driven either by Trump's policy positions, which at times echo the Kremlin, or the Republican's "deep engagement and ties with Russian interests in his business affairs."
To Podesta, the central figure in the swirling controversy is longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone, who has said he has been in touch with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Podesta also raised as evidence an August tweet in which Stone said Podesta's "time in the barrel" was coming. The tweet was sent shortly after WikiLeaks published scores of hacked emails from other Democratic officials.
"I think it's a reasonable assumption, or at least a reasonable conclusion, that Mr. Stone and the Trump campaign had advance warning about what Assange was going to do," Podesta told reporters aboard the Clinton campaign plane. Podesta acknowledged the evidence was "circumstantial."

(15,543 posts)I disagree. I feel it's important for Americans to know that Russia is playing a yuuuge part in supporting Donald Trump and the Republican party.

I don't believe Trump for one second. Roger Stone works for Trump.
We have plenty of history about how the anti-Clinton operation is run.

There has been plenty of discussion of these issues here on DU this season.
Passing data through Russian computers and allowing such to show = cover your tracks
Plenty of narrative to point away from the Republican operatives (no surprise), but evidence of "Russian meddling against the Dems" all inference, no proof.

The Russians are like the Republicans: they lie and deny everything.
You can place your faith in the unholy alliance of Ruskis and Repubs if you want, but knowing their track record of lies, I ain't buying it.

(15,262 posts)The DNC hack has to come to the fore at some point before the election. Once it gets a bit more analysis, the narrative will shift from the "Russians did it" disinformation to motive and evidence. it is obvious who had motive. What they did not expect was getting caught. What the public saw was only what happened AFTER they got caught. Everything that came out did so in the context of the perps trying to avoid getting identified. Who pushed the "Russians and Putin" narrative?
Don't let the intelligence agencies concern about outside actors hacking elections divert you. What did you expect of them, that they would release a public statement saying we need to be aware of Republican hacker attempts? They can't do that and yet they had to alert all election officials about security needs in a way that would get some response, not partisan obstruction and political blowback.
Republicans did it is the only reasonable conclusion, frankly.
