A Hewlett-Packard executive and Republican fundraiser said Tuesday she will back Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for president.
Meg Whitman said she plans to give a "substantial" contribution to Clinton's campaign to make sure Republican nominee Donald Trump doesn't become the next president.
I will vote for Hillary, I will talk to my Republican friends about helping her, and I will donate to her campaign and try to raise money for her, Whitman told The New York Times on Tuesday.
Whitman, who ran for governor of California in 2010, said she doesn't agree with Clinton on many issues, but noted that the Democratic nominee would "be a much better president than Donald Trump."

The day started with a GOP Congressman backing Hillary, and now ends with Whitman.
And she's open that she doesn't agree with Hillary on much, but wants to stop Trump at any cost.
With Hillary's favorables on the rise post-convention, look for the few halfway sane GOP figures left to see this as an opening to come out solidly against Trump.

(17,155 posts)If she puts up her money and influence, it translates into more votes for Clinton and fewer votes for Trump. She saturated the media during her 2010 campaign.
I couldn't stand her in the California election, but I can tolerate some elements of her behavior if she supports Clinton.
I'll probably draw the line at Gnarly Carly, though.
