A suspected suicide bomber has killed himself and injured 12 others in an explosion outside a wine bar in the German city of Ansbach.

Detectives have said the suspected attacker was a 27-year-old Syrian man who had been denied asylum in Germany.

Security officials say he detonated an explosive device after being turned away from a music festival being attended by thousands of people.

Joachim Herrmann, Bavaria's interior minister, said the contents of his backpack had the potential to kill and injure many more victims as it was filled with explosives and metal parts. "It's very likely this really was an Islamist suicide attack", he said.

A failed Syrian asylum seeker has blown himself up and injured 12 other people with a backpack bomb near a festival in the south German town of Ansbach.

The state of Bavaria's interior minister said the 27-year-old man had detonated the device after being refused entry to the music festival.

About 2,500 people were evacuated from the venue after the explosion.

Bavaria has been on edge since a knife rampage on a train claimed by so-called Islamic State last Monday.

I drove my radar, never through center of towns. Our field sites and headquarters were in Graf. 3-60 ADA. German nationals would also tailgate the new M1 tanks around hohenfels and cook the paint off the cars.

A device was exploded by a 27-year-old Syrian national outside a music festival. He had been denied entry into the event due to the lack of a ticket, Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said during a news conference early Monday.

Twelve people were injured.

The man, who has not yet been named, stood around the festival entrance for a short period before he blew himself up. The music festival and surrounding area were evacuated.

Also the suicide bomber is highly unlikely to have cooked up the explosives and rigged the bomb himself, which means there's an active cell somewhere.
