Dismayed by Donald Trump, Michael Bloomberg Will Endorse Hillary Clinton
Source: nyt
Michael R. Bloomberg, who bypassed his own run for the presidency this election cycle, will endorse Hillary Clinton in a prime-time address at the Democratic convention and make the case for Mrs. Clinton as the best choice for moderate voters in 2016, an adviser to Mr. Bloomberg said.
The news is an unexpected move from Mr. Bloomberg, who has not been a member of the Democratic Party since 2000; was elected the mayor of New York City as a Republican; and later became an independent.
But it reflects Mr. Bloombergs increasing dismay about the rise of Donald J. Trump and a determination to see that the Republican nominee is defeated.
Mrs. Clinton is seeking to reach out to middle-of-the-road swing voters and even moderate Republicans uneasy about Mr. Trump. Polls show that significant numbers of Republicans remain wary of Mr. Trump, and question his fitness for the presidency

(60,536 posts)Bloomberg announced back in March, he would not run for President and the reasons why not:
As the race stands now, with Republicans in charge of both Houses, there is a good chance that my candidacy could lead to the election of Donald Trump or Senator Ted Cruz. That is not a risk I can take in good conscience.

Not this time.
Trump is left without the money guys, leaving only uneducated/stupid/poor angry white males. A tiny minority no matter how you slice it.

(5,902 posts)The above demographic - plus a sizable number of similarly misguided white women - may be small; but they are motivated.
The voter ID/restriction laws imposed in many states - including most swing states - are specifically tailored to facilitate their access to the ballot box, moreover, while impeding those least likely to vote Republican.
It's going to be close.

(380 posts)If he wants to vote for Hillary privately, perhaps it might expunge a small percentage of the sins he accumulated while Mayor of New York, but we don't need his public endorsement.

We have the upper hand in this election, but we must not rest on our laurels or asses. The risk of a Trump presidency to us and the world it far too great.
Had we somehow nominated Joe Lieberman, I'd support him over Trump, and heartily. And I despise Joe Lieberman.
It's time to wake the fuck up and see that we must do everything we can to defeat Donald J. Trump. He is a huge danger. More so than Ted Cruz (and Cruz is a zealot, but a law abiding one.)

(380 posts)Because Trump sinks to allying himself with the KKK, we have to do the same with Bloomberg?
Feh.

Donald Trump is an extreme danger to our republic. Mayor Bloomberg's endorsement, while not of large value, is of small value, and I welcome it. Mature people do not lump "the other" into the category of evil. They face the world as it is.
harrose
(380 posts)There is no such thing. If you're a Rethug, then you stand for the disenfranchisement of women, the return to slavery of people of color and the hegemony of the rich white man. Anything else a "moderate" Rethug tells you is a lie designed for public consumption.

Michael Bloomberg was a breath of fresh air after 8 years of 9/11 Giuliani. Many NY Democtats supported Mr. Bloomberg, who was exceedingly moderate.

(65,616 posts)I read at one point things were so bad, they had to escort Ms. Cruz out of the building. They are a bunch of radicals that showed the nation how off center they are and how dangerous Trump is.

(45,251 posts)I cannot recall reading a single story about a homeless former US Senator.
Meanwhile, we no longer have to worry about whether or not he is a "natural born" US citizen.
He now has Lieberman stench. Good riddance to both of them, as far as I am concerned.
