Don't Go to Chick-Fil-A, Mayor De Blasio Tells New Yorkers
Source: Fox News
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and other city officials are urging New Yorkers not to eat at Chick fil-A.
The popular chicken restaurant is planning to open up a new location in Queens, its fourth to open in New York City.
But the liberal mayor argued that the owners of Chick fil-A support groups that promote "hate" against gays.
"Im certainly not going to patronize them and I wouldnt urge any other New Yorker to patronize them. But they do have a legal right," he said.

(16,400 posts)He is sticking his neck out, there are no political benefits as far as I can see, he is just standing up for his liberal values.
I am impressed.

(1,134 posts)Over the years I've had a few of their sandwiches and really don't get why some insist they are so good. I'd say maybe it's politically motivated, but I've heard people say that even before all that stuff came out, and don't think they could have all been doing it for the anti-gay BS. Anyway, it's just basic fast food that most people could probably do better on their own.

(4,919 posts)The queue wraps around the block towards 5th, and the staff is taking orders from the folks in line with tablets. It's mind boggling, so it's a no brainer that they've found a new market in New York City.
I do remember REALLY liking their basic chicken sandwich with the pickle with a squirt of mayo before I stopped eating there for political reasons in the 1990's. However, I've seen crazy drive-thru lines in Pearland, TX (including entertainment by local Christian bands) and now crazy lines in midtown NYC. I don't get it, but I must admit I'd really like to just get just one of their basic chicken sandwiches again. But, I have no kinda time (NKT) for the line.

I have to get past there to get into the office supply store to buy ink and paper so I make sure I don't try to do it any where near lunch time on a weekday.
I ate at Chick-Fil-A once, got food poisoning and would never go back for that reason alone.

(5,790 posts)... it was a bit weird . ,. They had a "character actor" doing magic tricks and cracking joaks for the kiddies. I decorated some of the walls and signage with = equity stickers and left.

(13,297 posts)but seems like a waste of political capital to go after them, but after his 'Colored-People Time' comment with Hillary playing along, I don't value De Blasio for being much in the thinking department

(14,691 posts)I won't eat there now - I have a gay brother. (Even if he weren't gay I wouldn't patronize them.)
As a New Yorker I say good for the Mayor BUT - why is he only saying this now? They first opened here in October 2015. This newest location is the FOURTH to open here in little more than SIX MONTHS - good luck trying to keep people out of it.

It was not for the quality of the food.

(50,573 posts)I realize good Democrats are never supposed to set foot in Chick-fil-A, but as a research project you should eat there one time to see what our biggest problem in fighting that chain is: those little gut bombs taste really fucking good. People might go to CFA once or twice to support Truett Cathy's stance on gayness once or twice, but if they don't like the crap he's selling they won't go a third time. They DO like it, so they go over and over and over.

(1,582 posts)I am fascinated by the demeanor of the staff - very efficient and polite. Apparently they are trained that when a customer says "thank you" they respond with "my pleasure." I always test them on that. Any I agree that they are always busy and have a diverse customer base.

CFA is far and away the best of the bunch though.
Pissed me off to no end that the planned opening of one in Boston was blocked by then mayor Tom Menino.
