Teacher assassinated in front of his Southwest Colombia students

A teacher from the southwest of Colombia was assassinated during class, in front of a room full of young students, local media reported Thursday.

The murder took place on Tuesday morning in the remote village of Cajibio, Cauca, where Diego Cenen Lopez was giving a math class to a group of primary school children.

According to the authorities, the hit man arrived at the classroom and, ignoring the presence of the children, shot the teacher numerous times.

Although the teacher was still alive when he was delivered to Popayan hospital, he later died from his wounds.

6. Happened sometime after the Honduran coup in 2009, same thing, 2 assassins,

dressed in black, came over a wall in a school, murdered another male teacher in front of his students.

The teacher was known to speak out publicly against the coup, apparently he had made enemies in the right-wing government.

Committing atrocities in front of audiences always does, as mentioned by another poster, send the message to other citizens, their families, the neighborhoods, the communities.

In Colombia, the paramilitary right-wing military-allied death squads have been known to tear people they don't like apart with chain-saws, while living, in front of their neighbors, families, etc. for exactly the same purpose. It has worked effectively, giving Colombia one of the consistently highest rate of displaced people in the world, for years, who flee from their own homes in panic, with nowhere to actually go. They usually end up flowing to the cities where there is no where for them to live, and no job to sustain them.
