Lena Dunham Attacked For Supporting Hillary Clinton, Not Bernie Sanders

The last thing Lena Dunham imagined was being the target of backlash for supporting a fellow feminist. Dunham, 29, a devout Clinton surrogate for the 2016 Elections, has been taking heat for her social media and public support. However, fans on Instagram expressed their anger at her choice for president, and some of it have been hostile, to say the least.
The Girls star opened up recently about ongoing hostility-filled attacks from so-called Democratic voters for throwing her support behind Hillary Clinton instead of Senator Bernie Sanders, who many say have done more for women than the former Secretary of State, according to Variety.
Dunham usually receives a barrage of toxic comments on her Instagram feed after she posts images of her on the Clinton campaign trail. On most occasions, she ignores the negative attacks from Internet trolls. However, things boiled over last week when one haters' comment ruffled her feathers: "Bernie Sanders had done more for feminism than Hillary Clinton ever had." According to Salon, Lena "lost her freaking mind."
"The idea that youre gonna tell me that the woman who stepped into the White House when I was 6 years old and made me think it was possible to live the life I wanted and say the things I believed has somehow not done enough for women is so offensive to the core of my being.

(28,864 posts)Sanders has been falsely attacked for things he never did or said,
and so have his supporters .. both by Clinton and her supporters!
Corporatists all seem to be bullies to me. They want to ram things
down our throats and expect us to give way to it -- things like the
TPP, privatizing SS, losing our jobs or wage security to people
overseas ... and so on.

(135,425 posts)I think we can do better here at DU. I'm puzzled why we don't.
Dismissing the fact that Dunham gets harassed by assholes on the internet doesn't "help" Sanders at all. The smart move is to say something like "They don't represent us" not "She's a whiner/this is not breaking news/I hate Lena Dunham."

fuck you lena, i want that hour and a half of my life back.
supporting hillary is further evidence of her obvious bad taste.

(5,668 posts)BS comes with the territory but yes Bernie has actually done more for women than Hillary. from a Legal standpoint. although the Stand by your man thing I remember in the 90's aggravated alot of feminists back then. It was a private matter and I'd much rather stayed out of it. I don't consider her a feminist . Not all women are feminists and yes there are Male Feminists, how is that so hard to understand I don't know

Total abuse of LBN to electioneer on the bogus "mean Berniebros" meme, and distract from real news. Even as GDP material, this is trivial. An embarrassment.

"bernie is better for woman" is in no interpretation within the english language "hillary hasn't done enough"
bernie is sure the hell better for millennial woman who didn't have rich, wellconnected parents to jumpstart their career. or go to uni or learn a trade. or float their apparently quite expensive healthcare needs, which is quite a luxury indeed.
is it abuse if i insinuate that she should go jump off a high building? i'm not saying it to her face. please die and disappear forever, lena, i'm sick of reading your stupid opinions.

Vote for whomever you prefer in the Primary. And don't be a jerk to those who prefer someone else.
Vote for whomever the candidate is in the General. And don't be a jerk if it's not your first choice.

(34,648 posts)Since people have decided to bother me on twitter, find my family members through facebook and harass them over a comment I made, deleted and apologized for, I can safely say that the swarming a bullying is absolutely REAL. I have no idea if people thought that finding my relatives and harassing them over a comment that I made ON ANOTHER SITE was a good idea, or that it would make them look good and my family members hate me, but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
Leave people and their family ALONE!! Stop investigating every single supporter of Hillary's and bullying them! It DOES NOT MAKE YOU LOOK GOOD. IT IS WHY YOU ARE NOT WINNING!! I will be contacing authorities if even one more of my family members is contacted and let them decide on a proper course of action. Harassment is a crime.
AtheistCrusader
(33,982 posts)or is it becoming a repeat occurrence that parties unknown, but also somehow certainly Bernie supporters, keep trying to make you 'stop supporting Hillary', by doing things that would never in a million years actually convince anyone to stop doing something, and in fact, would likely result in any targeted person doing the opposite, twice as hard?
It seems to be becoming a theme.
bravenak
(34,648 posts)I really do not care about this election anywhere NEAR as much as I care about my family. I just want my family left alone.
AtheistCrusader
(33,982 posts)There are only two ways to silence trolls like that. Actual law enforcement activity (difficult but not impossible, depending on circumstances.) and by not giving them what they want. No response. No complaints, no acknowledgement of their activity at all, and they go away.
Saying what you just said publicly is giving the sort of person who would do that, exactly what they want.
bravenak
(34,648 posts)But now people who were contacted just want to solve it themselves so, that's what I'm worried about. I do not want my family doing what they are doing, and looking for the culprits, to take things into their own hands. That is dangerous. My family is NOT LIKE ME. They will not use words, so I have to contact the law to protect the actual bullies. Not everyone brushes stuff off like I do and moves on.

(5,946 posts)but she also has a habit of claiming to be the victim of some negative comment.
A lot of people liked her show it did some newsworthy breakthroughs, but I did not enjoy the 4 episodes I selected to watch, so what ever. Probably a generations thing.
she likens herself to being a feminist, but not the kind I was when I worked having to deal with bosses with pornmo on their office walls, lower wages, no respect, lost opportunities, and a co-worker who told you he had a right to rape you because you were working in a man's job.
No she is a pre-emptive feminist who claims everything negative said about Clinton is gender insults and stuff like that. And if you don't support Clinton you are not a feminist.

Truly sickening, and frankly it has no place in the Democratic party.
