But word has it that just about everybody who's involved in GOP politics totally hates Cruz because he's a weapons-grade asshole. So maybe that's why Frothy Turtlehumper went for Rubio.

Santorum is a wannabe Republican Elite. They have anointed Rubio as their boy since Jeb is a flop.

Go back to Santorum's endorsement of Arlen Spector (a reasonably liberal Republican) in a tight race, in direct opposition to the right-wing of the RNC to see this in action.

Plus Cruz is more of a fiscal wingnut than a social issues wingnut (although he is that, too). Santorum and he are opposed (in reality) on financial issues, and only aligned socially -- and not even there in that Santorum is a borderline Monarchist and staunch Roman Catholic -- this Catholic fringe despises Protestants even more than non-Christians.

I dealt with Santorum as a staffer in Congress. He's a complete asshole and just about as weird as can be.

He circulated "family pictures" of him with his dead baby. Seriously. Google it. Creepiest thing I've ever seen.

And what is it about the GOP that so many of their politicians are really, really weird? I mean, nuttier than squirrel shit weird. When Democrats go bad they just become corrupt in a normal, boring way. We've had Emmanuel and Daley in Chicago, the congressman with the cash in his freezer in (I think) Louisiana, Blagojevich, Traficant (OK, he was nuts), Huey Long and some others of that ilk. But they don't seem to tend toward crazy weirdness like the GOPers do. Exhibits 1-3, just for example: Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, and Joe Barton (thinks global warming will be made worse by wind energy because it will slow the wind down and make things hotter) Maybe there's something about conservative ideology that either attracts crazy people or causes them to go crazy. We haven't got anybody like those loons.

His "endorsement" might not help Marco much, though.

He cares nothing about states rights or curtailing NSA but what was shocking is that he said he will use SWAT raids on legal businesses in states where it's legal. That's a massive step backwards. That's not forward thinking...that's Clinton/Bush injustices all over again.

miniscule inconsequential influence he has in Rubio's direction because they're both Catholics -- at least Rubio says he is when he's not busy being Mormon or Evangelical. He's had more religions than Trump has had wives. The R candidates are one fucked up bunch.

The more Catholic, the better.

Maybe he sees Cruz as "more lapsed" than Rubio.

And, nobody else from Opus Dei is in the running.

He talks big on immigration and is outraged about Obama's executive orders re: undocumented immigrants.

But in his recent (Spanish) interview with Jorge Ramos he said he'd keep Obama's executive orders in place until amnesty is passed.

So, he's lying to someone.
