Hillary Clinton came out swinging Sunday night on the issue of gun control and tried to tie her presidential primary rival Sen. Bernard Sanders to the gun industry.
At the partys last primary forum before the Feb. 1 Iowa caucuses, Mrs. Clinton said Mr. Sanders simply doesnt have credibility on guns.
He has voted with the NRA, with the gun lobby, numerous times, she said. He voted for immunity for gun makers and sellers
There is no industry in America that was given the total pass the gunmakers and gun dealers were, and that needs to be reversed.

(45,251 posts)SO tire of people immediately writing off a story based on where it was published.
And I'm not writing that as a Sanders supporter
I remember all the major news orgs shunning the John Edwards story simply because it was being brought up by the Enquirer, not because it wasnt true

I once had someone source shame me over posting a VIDEO.

(45,251 posts)The first time Sanders ran for Congress, the NRA got furious with his Republican opponent. So, it did a mailing endorsing Sanders. After that, it graded Sanders F every year, until last year, when it graded him D- (as compared with, say, Governor Dean's A grade from the NRA)
That my friends is the entire extent of Sanders "ties" to the NRA.

(45,251 posts)It's hilarious: For years on this board, DU's right has been falsely accusing DU's left of being purists. Balancing Bernie's one or two votes on guns that I don't like against many things about Hillary I don't like, including that she voted for every war and surge for which she was eligible to vote, I pick Bernie. But, now, I'm not pure enough for DU's right.
Hard to see their sincerity sometimes.

BTW, Leahy had a C grade--and even that is low for a Vermonter. Most of them get A grades from the NRA, as did Governor Dean. Sanders had an F for years, until he got a D-. Whooptie!

(751 posts)Have A rating from NRA. Most of democrats supporting and campaigning for her probably have better NRA rating.
Why is she not calling those out? Gun advocates should hate Clinton for politicizing this and about not trying to solve problems.

(45,251 posts)She is not calling out Dean, Lahey or others because it would be politically inconvenient for her so to do. In 2008, it would have politically inconvenient for her not to call out Obama for being anti-gun. This is not about guiding principles.

(20,453 posts)Not only did she spin/lie/spit up trying to change his "D-" NRA rating into something it was not, she camouflaged her air support (a.k.a. drone) theater in places where we keep pissing ON people after pissing them OFF.
Apparently, it's okay to shoot innocent people if it's managed through gaming. You don't get your hands dirty on THOSE brown people, do you?

(5,082 posts)She called Obama naive about Iran too. And now she thinks she can pull emotional triggers and win the nomination based on guns? That's naive. People care about income inequality.

(12,699 posts)I naively thought telling lies and manipulation was something the "other" party did. I forgot when a Clinton is involved that is thrown out the window ((remembering 2008). What I am most shocked about are the Clinton supporters who, know this B.S. isn't true but still spread it around and act like it is. You pride yourself on being better than the GOP, but yet still support and play dirty politics. I thought we were better than that.

(11,841 posts)And his vote against it was the right one. Its stupid to think that any court would allow you to sue Smith & Wesson because they legally sold a gun to someone who ended up breaking a law with it. Just like suing Jack Daniels because a distributor sold a bottle to someone who got drunk and killed someone in an accident.
Stupid & would never hold up in court.
Now if they sold a defective weapon, thats different. Remington has been fighting that one for awhile now

(50,334 posts)If someone intentionally runs over a person with a car, you don't sue Ford, so why should you sue a gun manufacturer after someone uses their product in a crime? That's pretty much all they disagree on. It occurred to me that Hillary is doing Bernie a favor. Her constant mentioning of this might bring more voters to his side.

Step aside, Hillary. Your time was 2008, and you shanked it. An actual liberal candidate is what's needed now, not another Third Way, business-as-usual 1%'er.
