Benghazi Panel To Release Sidney Blumenthal Emails

WASHINGTON Sidney Blumenthal stood to benefit financially from his unofficial advice to Hillary Clinton on U.S. policy in Libya when Clinton was secretary of State, according to the Republican chairman of the House committee investigating the 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi.
Beyond the pure politics that were occurring at this time, perhaps more disturbing is that at the same time Blumenthal was pushing Secretary Clinton to war in Libya, he was privately pushing a business interest of his own in Libya that stood to profit from contracts with the new Libyan government a government that would exist only after a successful U.S. intervention in Libya that deposed Qaddafi, Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina said in a letter Thursday to the Benghazi panel's top Democrat.
In the biting 13-page letter to Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, Gowdy said he plans to release email traffic within days showing that Blumenthal, a longtime Clinton family confidant, was Clintons primary adviser on Libyan policy. More than half the emails sent to and from Clinton regarding Benghazi and Libya prior to the terrorist attacks involved Blumenthal, according to Gowdys letter.
The fact that former Secretary Clinton relied so heavily on an individual for the Libyan intervention, her quintessential foreign policy initiative, whom the White House explicitly prohibited from working at the State Department is mind boggling, Gowdy wrote.

Her response to Ghadaffi's "removal" dragged through streets and anal raped didn't represent the USA very well. We are supposed to believe in bringing people to a Trail by Jury of Peers and giving them right to Counsel to defend themselves.
Instead we just Target and Drone Kill or Drag people through Streets for the Mob Approval.
This is not the America I was Taught About with our Constitution and Bill of Rights that should Apply to ALL....especially if we intervene in Countries we should be proud of holding our Democracy Flags High for Human Rights and not acting like thugs when we take part in Deposing those WE DECLARE Dictators or Usurpers in Other Countries where we have No Right to be Judge, Jury and Executioner.

(44,121 posts)Today I've seen a newsmax author, a reporter from Murdoch's New York Post, Trey Gowdy, and some asshole of a Republican senator being fawned over as if they are paragons of truth and honesty.
It is wearing on my nerves and not something I expected to see on a democratic/progressive website.
I think you should right an op based on your above posts. I read your threads and although we don't always agree, I think you are a truly passionate person who really gives a damn about the real effects of policy. And it would never occur to you to use right-wingers to support your arguments! My hat's off to you.

Sounds like he's pissed at Cummings for threatening to release transcripts from Cheryl Mills and Blumenthal that the Republicans have been suppressing. So he's trying to do damage control.
Those transcripts were suppressed by Gowdy et. al because they contradict Gowdy's Benghazi narrative

Cummings Calls for Immediate Release of Mills Interview Transcript
Sep 3, 2015 Press Release
WASHINGTONToday, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the Select Committee on Benghazi, released the following statement after the completion of the Committees transcribed interview of former State Department Chief of Staff, Cheryl Mills:
"After listening to many hours of testimony with Cheryl Mills today, I believe every single American should be able to read this transcript as soon as possible.
"The American people should be able to see for themselves that none of the wild Republican allegations against Secretary Clinton have been substantiated.
"The Secretary did not personally authorize cables that reduced the State Departments security in Libya, and she did not order the military to stand-down, as some have alleged.
"Ms. Mills answered every single question thoroughly, and she handled herself as a consummate professional. I thank her for her service.
"I also believe the Committee should immediately release the transcript of Sidney Blumenthals deposition, but the Chairman has refused to schedule a voteas House Rules requireand instead has insisted on keeping that testimony secret too, even as the Committee selectively leaks other documents out of context.
"Unfortunately, it appears that the Select Committee has shelved its core work on Benghazi to focus almost exclusively on Secretary Clinton and her aides in an effort to attack her bid for president.
"The Committee has not held a single hearing since Januarymore than eight months ago. We were supposed to have hearings with the Defense Department and the intelligence agencies, but we never had them. To be clear, these were hearings the Chairman himself was planning to hold.
"Instead, over the past 16 months, the Committee has spent more than four million dollars, but we have held only three hearings and fewer than 50 interviewsone of the least productive congressional investigations in history.
"This severe misuse of taxpayer resources and Congressional power has done very little to help protect our diplomats around the world."

Did Hillary cause or support deposing Qaddafi to please her friend? Or was she supporting a long time American goal that was supported by both Democrats and Republicans, including the neo-cons of the Bush Administration and the President she served?
Does anyone really believe that ANY Secretary of State from EITHER party would have stepped in to save Qaddafi? Does anyone seriously believe that the actions of Secretary Clinton would have been different if she had never heard of Sidney Blumenthal?

(2,620 posts)Blumenthal revealed in an email the name of a CIA source in Libya; Secretary Clinton then forwarded that email on her (unsecured) server.
Much ink was was spilt over the Valerie Plame fiasco which resulted in at least one individual doing jail time. Can this particular faux pas be treated any less seriously?

(509 posts)like the Scooter Libby / Valerie Plame, the classified day planner of David Petraeus, etc., no senior person in the HRC universe will be tried, convicted, and serve jail time. This administration covers its ass like no other I've seen.
With Nixon, the Attorney General did convict everyone he could, presidential pardon for Nixon notwithstanding. W did not pardon Libby, he just granted clemency, and Libby remains a federal felon who cannot practice law.
It chaps my ass that I have to compare Dems to folks like those above, and have the Restupidkins be more upright in their acts. But I don't see the rule of law being followed, just the rule of get away with whatever you can.

You have GOT to be fucking kidding me. You couldn't sound more like a Gowdy toadie if you memorized an excerpt from one of his interviews on Fox and spewed it forth vebatum with the addition of a stupid southern accent.
Don't pretend like anyone here gives a fuck what you think.

(101,314 posts)and there's certianly nothing thatmeans you 'have to' try and make the comparison.
Libby revealed Plame's status to the world on purpose; that's why he was convicted. Petraeus pled guilty under a Democratic administration to a misdemeanor charge of mishandling classified information, which was knowingly passing the information to his lover and biographer.
This, however, is about whether a CIA name accidentally went through an unsecured server. It's completely different. I can't think how you see them as similar, or that Republicans were 'more upright'.
