Hillary Clinton to Lay Out Economic Vision in New York Speech
Source: New York Times
The speech, at an event shaping up to be the most ambitious public gathering undertaken by the campaign since Mrs. Clinton began her quest for the White House in April, will be shaped by symbolism as she seeks to make the case for why she should be president.
It will be held in New York City on an island named for Franklin D. Roosevelt, in the shadow of diverse middle-class neighborhoods, as Mrs. Clinton tries to evoke the legacy of the New Deal and lays out her vision for a federal government substantially engaged in lifting American families that feel economically insecure and increasingly left behind.
And she will channel her personal hero, Eleanor Roosevelt, in emphasizing womens and civil rights and her assertion that the Republican Party is out of touch with an increasingly diverse electorate. Her plans were described by people briefed on the speech who were not authorized to discuss it for attribution before the campaign officially released details.

If you're attending in person or watching on C-SPAN, my sources tell me she's expected to speak at 11 AM.

Otherwise, her speech is and will be mainly lip service to the 99%.

(5,364 posts)Stuff like "entering agreements to provide new markets for our products.....blah blah blah" is just a specious half truth ( more like one-eighth truth ) and a euphemism for more corporate written free trade agreements that will cause 10 times the imports for every export made.

(242 posts)than there is just one line going over there. It'll be crowded, and that's just the F train from Brooklyn, nearly 99% inaccessible.
Good job.
Clinton didn't think things through.

NYC has such a lack of diversity - well, there's no excuse for such a choice of venue.

(18,124 posts)anyone has the right to vote for whom they will. I don't care if people who disregard her record vote for her...and if she is the primary(s) victor, I will be forced to vote for her. As it stands at this time, though, she really is not the only choice for thinking people who look at voting and policy records.

But we have a chance to run a REAL DEMOCRAT for the first time since RFK.

(27 posts)I feel no Democrat can be taken seriously about economic, environmental, health, or democratic gov issues issues if they don't stand strongly against the Fast Track & TPP. Enough is enough.
The largest coalition in this country right now is the one against Inequality, and our party should live up to its legacy.
