Western Conservative Summit disinvites GOP gay group
Source: Denver Post
Andrews told the gay group that the Log Cabin Republicans worldview and policy agenda are fundamentally at odds with what Colorado Christian University stands for, so its just not a fit. Im sorry it has to be that way.
He reiterated that this morning, telling The Denver Post he was disappointed that no one from the Log Cabin Republicans called him to discuss the situation and instead sent out a news release.
The Log Cabin Republicans exists to redefine the family. Log Cabin Republicans think gay marriage should be the law of the land and Colorado Christian University doesnt believe it should be, he said. They advocate contrary to our agenda and our core beliefs.
He said the groups $250 has been refunded.

(4,742 posts)The Log Cabin Republicans exist. That would be like me joining the ladies 65+ Bridge Club (I'm a 40 year old male) and having them not want me there. Why would i even want to be there in the first place?

(28,017 posts)I suppose some of them may be Tea Baggers on other policies, or they read too much Ayn Rand in their misbegotten youth. After all, all youth is misbegotten in some way.
It is like a socialist joining the American Nazi party. When one group is so antagonistic against you, what would compel you to join that hate group? And for the past decade, the GOP has been a fucking hate group, by any standard you want to apply.

(1,606 posts)The label "Log Cabin Republicans" has heretofore provided ACCESS to conservative events and policymakers, thereby enabling at least the potential for some dialogue and possible evolution to occur.
That said, it seems that the conservative right which formerly tolerated the LCRs has now made the decision to openly exclude the organization for avowedly religious reasons. Their miscalculation and intolerance is our gain.

(4,742 posts)The feeling may have been education by associating with their Republican piers on "other" platforms and maybe getting a few righties to see that gay people are OK. But the fundies have completely derailed that as of now.

(8,200 posts)The racists who have joined hands with the Republican Party because of the Voting Rights Act and enthusiastically indorse laws to restrict their voting rights, and in short have shown nothing but hatred for their race in every manner afforded to them. Why would a Black person join a party vote for people who are actively discriminating against them. This also applies to working class whites who vote against their own interest siding with the very people who are their archenemies and are intent in driving them grinding poverty.

(16,191 posts)I've met a couple of Log Cabin gays over the years. They tend to be well-to-do business types with economic views and small government preferences that make them a good fit with the Republicans. They simply take a libertarian view on gay marriage. There are even Bible thumping gay Republicans out there.
Being homosexual does not automatically instill someone with a particular political or social outlook, and I have met a lot of politically conservative gay and lesbians in my life. Most are not Republicans simply because they know they aren't welcome there, but there's a minority who see it as a better vehicle to push their economic and social agendas.

(28,270 posts)I cant think of any other reason a gay republican would even exist and that is a piss poor reason to belong to a political party that loathes you and seeks to pass discriminatory laws against you and worse. SMH

(4,150 posts)They always talk about "moderate" Republicans. . . I've got news for the Log Cabin Folks: There are NONE.
A gay person voting for a Republican makes me think of a Jew voting for a Nazi.

(2,166 posts)have not been all that political. They seem to use it as business networking tool like joining LinkedIn. Seem to think they can get further in their particular careers being around and accepted by republicans (ie. bosses, managers and clients).
