Washington (CNN) – Newt Gingrich will officially end his bid for the Republican presidential nomination and formally express his support for Mitt Romney next week, two sources close to Gingrich tell CNN.

While details are still being worked out, Gingrich is likely to hold his final campaign event Tuesday in Washington, DC where he will make the announcement surrounded by his family and supporters.

16. well, he was on the book tour ...

wasn't he the one who established the statement: "If you want to sell a book, announce you're running for President."?

My guess is NEVER. Tiffany's will see their money before his campaign debts are paid

He has the nicest mansion of all of them, from the pictures I saw posted here a while back, it's a real classic. There may be an auction or foreclosure in his future. After all, the GOP was evicted from their office in MN for a measly $96,000 rent owed. Perhaps Newt will lay low a while.

9. Maybe he's eyeing for VP

old guy <-> somewhat older guy
severely conservative <-> real conservative
famous for being flexible <-> famous for being hard-headed

Will Gingrich be Romney's Cheney?

18. I wonder if any states besides TX and KY will go for Ron Paul.

Last edited Wed Apr 25, 2012, 11:36 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

Paul represents a TX district in the house, and his son is a senator in KY. Freeper types will never accept Romney, so I wonder if some will vote Ron Paul as a desperation heave for true liberty despite being down 9 with 9 seconds left.

If not, expect Paul to drop out soon. (edit) also, another factor is that the big money interests like defense contractors and wall street are afraid of Paul bc of Paul's anti war and anti fed reserve positions.

19. He should've ended it weeks ago

when Santorum was still in the race. Gingrich had to be delusional to think he was going anywhere. By him being in the race for this long, all it did was rob Santorum of the nomination from Romney. But then again, that's probably what the GOP establishment wanted anyway...it almost makes me feel for all the voters who didn't want the "Rominee".

this was all just a publicity stunt in order to sell old books that were sitting
in a warehouse and to increase his speaking fees. That is, for those
people stupid enough to want to listen to his B.S.
