Groups decry chief justice referendum

Madison -- Groups called on voters Monday to reject a proposed amendment to the Wisconsin constitution that would allow state Supreme Court justices to select their chief justice, rather than have the position go to the most senior member of the court.

If approved April 7, the change is expected to dislodge Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson from the court's top job. Abrahamson would remain on the high court but no longer have administrative control of it.

"The voters of Wisconsin should be able to keep power to chose the chief justice, not a handful of judges," he said.

The groups represented at the news conference said the Republican-backed effort was a partisan attack on Abrahamson.

Folks, this is what the opposition is doing, and I suspect they are doing it all over the country. A referendum here, an obscure legislative maneuver there, a stealth attack to solidify their hold on power...NO MATTER HOW SMALL THE VICTORY, they stop at nothing, they worm their "conservative ideology" into every little election from dog-catcher, to city manager of Podunk, USA...and they are relentless.

Don't like the Chief Justice of your States Supreme Court? Run a referendum to change how the Chief Justice is selected, and do it in an obscure April 7 Election while no one is looking...oh, and make sure you have Koch money to flood the field and ensure you get "your" voters out.

Bottom line is I bet that the majority of Conservative voters in WI don't even know who the hell this Chief Justice is, BUT, they know "their" guy wants her gone, so they will get out and vote.

This is what I mean when I say, and will repeatedly say, that DEMS need to get the fuck out and vote straight Dem in EVERY election, no matter how small or insignificant you may think it is...and it's also why I can't stand folks who whine about this particular Democrat, or that particular Democrat, or 3RD way, or what-not, because it does NOTHING but make Dems self-defeating.

We'd better wake up to the reality. These folks are determined to remake this country into their Ayn Randian utopia, and they are doing it one "seemingly meaningless" election at a time!

I am sick to death of these Republican religious fanatics.

They are hell bent on destroying this country and they are doing a fine job.

Right wingers and religious fanatics are like a virus infecting the entire planet.

They sicken me.
