I tried in vain to get my kids to learn how to type properly. They never really got past typing with 2 fingers - but somehow they manage to send emails, write reports, etc. etc. (as I'm sure Hillary can as well).

Being able "to type" is not even worthy of noting now.

It's not like back in the day with getting demerits for tell tale erasure marks or whiteout fixes on typed documents.

Computers made all that obsolete.

It's all about proof reading now as errors are easily corrected with the delete key. And Hillary was the SofS, the boss, so why would anyone think this is even an issue.

She can hunt and peck just like anyone else and then turn it over to a staffer to polish it up — a non-issue, possibly an exculpatory one as well.

And 90's if you were like me and couldn't figure out computers. I could dictate an 80 page trial memorandum, complete with footnotes, without writing it out first.

Believe me, many older attorneys can't type.

She went to college and law school in the late 60s, early- mid- 1970s. You could type your exams but most were handwritten. I went to college and law school in the mid-70s and early 80s and typed exams were the exception, not the norm.

Please note that I am referring to typewriters, not computers.

As for legal practice, lawyers did not use computers until the 1990s. Before then, lawyers wrote out or dictated materials to be typed by secretaries. Then the lawyers marked up the typed materials until it was declared final.

Was Hillary so well organized that she could finish her assignments with days to spare, get them to a typist, and then check over the result before handing it in? Was her handwriting so legible that there were never any errors in the typed copy? Were her rough drafts so perfectly laid out, with no strikeovers or marginal additions, that there was nothing a typist could get wrong?

And was she able to do this not only for term papers but for the kinds of classes where you had to turn in a shorter written assignment every few weeks? Or did the teachers accept handwritten copy for those? And did none of them tell her that she really needed to get her typing skills up to speed or her academic career would suffer?

Well, maybe. Or maybe she did more-or-less know how to type fifty years ago but gave it up -- like driving a car -- when she could get other people to do it for her. It still seems odd.

But people could hire typists to do it.
Even if people typed up their term papers, as I did, many did not do any other typing. I did not really develop keyboard skills until 1990.

There were many old time attorneys who never developed keyboarding skills. Some were in Hillary Clinton's generation, although many were older than Hillary.

Hillary didn't stop driving because "she could get other people to do it for her". Hillary, like any other first lady and SS protectee, was prevented from driving for her own protection. Bill doesn't get to drive either, except in certain settings where the property is well guarded. Reagan and Bush could drive on their ranches, Bill drove at Camp David. Normally, none of them drive in public roads.

I didn't take typing in high school. My principle advised me to take it "you can always get a job with typing" (I was female in the early 80s). I replied that if I wanted a job typing for other people I would learn it, but that's not the type of job I wanted. He moved me into his senior Math class instead.

One of my law professors was the Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court. He went to Yale about the same time Hillary did. flying fuck whether or not Hillary Clinton can type, I am astonished that anyone in a job that requires producing a lot of paperwork can't type. She was an attorney. I shudder to think that she wasted time laboriously hand-writing stuff that some poor administrative assistant or paralegal then had to type.

It is important to note that people who take notes by hand retain far more of the information than those who take notes by typing.

I am constantly astonished at how many people don't know how to touch type, including at least a couple of well-known and prolific authors I've made the acquaintance of.
