How could this have happened?

Isn't this a post 9/11 country? Didn't we have something set up to trigger an alarm, one person purchasing weapons with that much ammunition...how could this have happened?

How was one citizen allowed to purchase that much ammunition, and other tactical equipment without it sounding some sort of an alarm on a federal level?

You can bet those who mean to terrorize this country is taking note of this fact.

In Toronto, the shooting this past week was the work of 'gangs.' The toll is nowhere as high; 2 dead, about 30 injured at a block party in suburban social housing. There is the usual gab; the mayor wants to use the immigration laws to get these people out of the country, wants the gangs to get out of the city, wants harsher prison terms (right-wing asshole), and wants to use the funds meant to help the kids for more policing.

In the US, it's a 'lone nut.' almost always.

It's still terrorism and gun violence, no matter who or what. We rationalize the outcome to suit our particular prejudices. Always.

It's never 'just' gangs or a lone psycho, but it makes us feel better and delays the inevitable discussion around guns and their availability and their uses.

Va. Tech Killer Ruled Mentally Ill by Court; Let Go After Hospital Visit

By NED POTTER (@NedPotterABC) and DAVID SCHOETZ
April 18, 2007

A court found that Virginia Tech killer Seung-Hui Cho was "mentally ill" and potentially dangerous. Then it let him go.

In December 2005 -- more than a year before Monday's mass shootings -- a district court in Montgomery County, Va., ruled that Cho presented "an imminent danger to self or others." That was the necessary criterion for a detention order, so that Cho, who had been accused of stalking by two female schoolmates, could be evaluated by a state doctor and ordered to undergo outpatient care.

According to the "Temporary Detention Order" obtained by ABC News, psychologist Roy Crouse found Cho's "affect is flat and mood is depressed.

"He denies suicidal ideation. He does not acknowledge symptoms of a thought disorder," Dr. Crouse wrote. "His insight and judgment are normal."

It now leads to "Page not Found". http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-817645%20?hpt=us_bn2

This nonsense of ruling out "terrorism" if committed by white males is ludicrous. ANY person who threatens or carries out homicide at a mass scale, is a "terrorist". Their goal to inflict maximum psychological and physical harm on someone.

Case in point of non-white "terrorists": http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13491653/ns/us_news-security/t/fbi-arrests-alleged-terror-plot/

vs this asshole.
