But it's really counterproductive and even wrong to go shooting at them, even when they themselves go out of their way to facilitate a proliferation of guns on the streets of America... Even arming mentally unstable people out there.
In spite of their own prior rhetoric about the 2nd Amendment making it alright to shoot politicians, I won't fault them that much for their own hypocrisy when it comes to their own getting shot.
In spite of their lack of concern for people unlike themselves, they are human. Barely.
Also, I'd like to point out for the record that shooting at Congressional Republicans is not typical for any of us on the left. Most of us recognize that such a thing is wrong and we'd rather do something about GOPrs with the business end of a ballot box, not the business end of a gun.
I will say that I can't wait until the NRA spins this debacle, I'm sure that most of us don't keep syrup of ipecac in the house for emergencies.
Lastly, I'm sure that we're all glad to see that Steve Scalise will recover from his wounds. I'm sure that he can't wait to leave the hospital so he can get back to the important work of denying health care to millions of Americans.
Take care!

(11,686 posts)They do not give a flying fuck if anyone else gets killed just as long it is not one of them!! They get killed because of things they made legal and then blame the Democrats and anyone else but themselves.

(63,221 posts)I'm really in no mood to "go high" these days. I don't wish for death upon anyone, but shooting incidents will continue to happen as long as we continue to have such lenient gun control laws in this country. Republicans are just as likely as anyone else to become victims.

(100,108 posts)Do I wish violence on anyone? Hell no! And let's never forget that the deplorables cheered what that asshole Gianforte did and are actively encouraging more of this sort of thing. I can guarantee that if the situation were reversed, and a republican shot a democratic congressman/woman - not only would they cheering for their deaths, they would be encouraging more violence. Alex Jones would call the attack a false flag. Hannity and Limbaugh would be salivating. We live in scary times right now.

(2,034 posts)The list of political violence victims is filled with progressives they've gunned down whose only crime was trying to help the world move forward. Today's events are an anomaly when compared to the sum evidence of political violence trends. There is no justification for violence, but most progressives already realize that.

(15,224 posts)I hate what Republicans stand for, and I hate that they have no empathy for the common good.
Violence is not and never will be the answer, however, because we don't want to become them. The answer is to fight them legally and morally, and that's what most of us do.
There is something mentally wrong with someone who opens fire on people at a baseball field. End of story.

(16,527 posts)Alas that didn't happen so their calls for unity and a tamping down of rhetoric fall on deaf ears.

(43,376 posts)come from all parts of the political spectrum, it's random in the sense that the specifics are unpredictable,
and very sad politicians of any stripe have to worry about events like this.
That said, it was sure to visit the right as it has visited the left, welcome to the club. And don't try to pin
the hatred as only a lefty pinko liberal thing, it's been all over for decades. And remember, guns don't kill
people, nor does rhetoric, but they sure do sow the seed and to the weak-minded it touches some raw nerve.

(601 posts)And I hope he drops dead. I hope the black hole inside him that passes for his heart seizes up and he falls face first into a pile of dog turds. I do not care how that sounds. I'm not going to kill him but I couldn't care less if someone else does. I've never even held a gun in my hands in my life, but my thoughts are plenty violent.
And you know what else? If GOP did absolutely nothing after Sandy Hook, they never will. A schoolroom of murdered 6-year-olds were perfectly fine with the gun scum in this country, and after that I stopped giving a shit at all when people get mowed down with guns. This is what America has normalized. Getting murdered for no reason at kindergarten, middle school, high school, college, the office, the mall, a nightclub, restaurants, any place you can think of. They are FINE WITH THAT. So, fuck them, and the gun culture, and their normalizing of gun violence and electing a fraud who, LET'S NOT FORGET, chuckled when he speculated that his "2nd amendment people" could take care of Hillary. They were also fine with that.
