and morning was really pleasant weather. Yesterday, it flitted with triple digits. A "cold front" just came through last night and broke the heat....well, it is still hot, but morning was nice.

4. I'm reminded of an event in '95 for Clinton

In 1995, the pundits had all convinced themselves that Clinton was universally disliked and would go down in history as a failed one-term president.

He was scheduled to appear at an event at Cal State Northridge on the 1st anniversary of the Northridge quake.

I kept my daughters out of school to bring them, anticipating that it would be crowded but not too bad because, well, he was so unpopular that only us hard-care partisans would bother coming.

Had to park FAR away--long lines, huge crowds. The enthusiasm was palpable. Crammed in the middle of an SRO crowd on the quad, it was my awakening moment.

Even before the whole Lewinsky thing, it dawned on me that day that the pundits were FOS whenever they talked about what Real Americans were thinking or feeling.

The right always say that liberals are "wusses", lazy, etc. Well given how hot and miserable it has been lately, attendance at the President's events has been strong compared to the few people following his opponent. I suspect the heat has subdued attendance at some of Obama's events but wow, just wow.

The MSM keeps trying to tell us this election is tight and even tied in some places. I'm sorry, I just can't buy it.

However, what we have to be concerned about is how many of those people are going to show up on election day only to be told they can't vote? Democrats have to start being more pro-active on this. If they do their typical wringing of their hands saying "Oh my, what can we do? If we stand up the Republicans will say we're mean", then Obama losses in November. Not because Rmoney is the choice of the people, but because the people were kept away from the voting booth. This is the biggest issue since The Civil Rights Act, and I'm afraid the Dems are asleep at the wheel right now.

OK, there's my bitch. Here's my rough ideas as to what to do.

1. There are ways to get around roadblocks. We don't have to just sit there and bitch about them. There are wealthy Dem contributors. Set up some kind of fund to pay the fees attached to getting the "proper ID" for those folks that just can't afford it. Get car/van pools going for those that need rides to get to the proper government building. Put out a call for people to volunteer their time and vehicles...they'll be there. Take the damn detour around the road block.

2. The Dems need to stop playing nice. You're dealing with street thugs, and they DO NOT play by the rules. Every time a Democrat is facing a camera, this issue needs to be brought up. Answer the question, and then go immediately to, "...but you know, the more important issue is voter suppression...' and then just keep going. Use it. The Rethugs do it all the time. And BONUS! It really pisses them off when their own tactics are used against them!

3. Use some ad money to start running the equivalent of Public Service Announcements, urging people to check their status NOW! Don't wait until election day to be told you can't vote. This PSA can also segue easily into a wake-up call to the folks out there about just HOW that Republican revolution of 2010 has been spending their time...trying to take your voting rights away. Mainly if you're a person of color, elderly, poor, etc. But primarily if you're a Democrat. The statistics are there. Use them, dammit.

4. Never, ever, ever forget Florida. It's what happens when you don't keep an eye on these bastards. They know they can't win a straight up election against Obama, so they're going BIG into their bag of slime. These guys are desperate, and that's ALWAYS dangerous in a wing-nut.

OK, that's a jumping off point. What 'cha got?

Make "voter suppression" an issue. Talk about it, force the talking heads to bring it up. Stop letting them pretend that "voter fraud" is a legitimate problem.

I feel so sorry for people who live in states without election-day registration. That should be allowed everywhere, but it's not, so the next best thing is to find out whether you have been purged from the system while it is still possible to re-register.
