As I was pulling weeds this morning I was pondering some questions (one of my favorite times to get all philosophical!) - and thought it may be interesting to get a sense of where DU stood on a few of them - but let's start with one.

(40,416 posts)I am a skeptic. Truth lies in nature. Humankind can approximate nature, but the final arbitration lies with how nature reveals herself.
The Republicans have an ideology which the want to carve into stone. That isn't the skeptical way. I reject anybody who claims they have truth separated from evidence. That leads down the path to doom.

(60,014 posts)The most interesting part to me will be seeing the diversity of responses and reading the comments - the journey!
Personal example that is kind of related - on vacation, we tend to book at most the first night - rest of the time we love to wing it, see what we end up doing and where we end up going. It's about the unknown, the ambiguity of each day - that my wife and I both really enjoy (we did nearly two weeks in Portland/WA/Astoria down to Yachats - Oregon Coast - armed with a guidebook and cell phone -no idea where we would spend each night until that same day when we finally had to decide where to land. Such fun! and yes, a bit risky, I suppose!)
Where I thought specifically of this poll was from a Twitter spat I was having with someone really right wing who was trying to tell me his "God" - way of worshiping, living, thinking - was superior to mine - he "felt bad for me". so I started thinking of how comfy I am not really knowing the answer to spiritual questions - but content to just evolve and be along for the ride.....
there, that's the back story - though there is no intent to imply any spiritual/religious connotations to the questions I posed.
Just...questions I am curious about, knowing how I am, and curious about how others are!

(2,307 posts)Answers are important, but they are a terminus. Questions take us forward. Answers bring us to a stop. For me the beauty of science is the lack of absolutes.
