Nevertheless, I don't really care. A defeat would be a massive blow to Drumpf, regardless of the reasons these Republicans vote against it.

(81,238 posts)Their foundational beliefs about that mythical wonderful "small government" means it's not the government's job to help you, so then it's not THEIR job, either, to help you.
THEY DON'T WANT TO HELP YOU.
AND their "philosophy" of "small government" tells them THEY DON'T HAVE TO HELP YOU.
THEY DON'T WANT TO HELP YOU.
Their philosophy of government tells them it's not the government's job to help you. Small government. "Get the government off yer back" and all that. "Starve the government so small you can drown it in the bathtub." "Personal Responsibility!" and all that. "You're on yer own." "The most terrifying words in the English language are 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help'."
Therefore...
THEY DON'T WANT TO HELP YOU.
Repeat:
THEY DON'T WANT TO HELP YOU.
Repeat AGAIN:
THEY DON'T WANT TO HELP YOU.

They sure as shit don't want to help ANYBODY like that. That bunch is too needy, too expensive, and too much of a nuisance. And probably won't make any campaign donations.
Don't see my dbag member on that list.

(59,503 posts)If they are also getting lots of calls from constituents to vote no -- they may fear voting for it more than Trump. Oddly, one of the accounts had Trump suggesting he would not get the big crowds if it failed -- as a selling point. In fact, it is a terrible selling point because if they see it likely to fail .. agree that Trump fails with it .. they certainly will not fear him.

(82,849 posts)Your leaders solemnly promised that if you got your lazy, worthless asses out of the mobile home and pulled the lever for them on election day, they would 100% pinky-swear, cross-my-heart-and-hope-to-die repeal Obamacare. Now it looks like they can't or won't do it. How does that work for you? Are you all right with it?
Or do you need someone on the electric teevee machine to come out and tell you how you're supposed to feel that President Trump didn't do this on Day One?

(2 posts)Im new at this thread thing but today is a good day. I got to voice my opinion on Donald Trump and his policies.I was asked how I felt about him. I told the nice lady who was wide eyed and swore to me she didnt vote for him that he was dangerous and what he is doing is corrupt and he needs to go. Its apparent that these people do not research these things, she said hes going to help us,I asked what with? she couldnt even tell me! She had no idea the ACA was really Obama care. We need some Democrats in Ky to start educating these people!! Please I implore you! Help the residents in Ky ! Educate Please! I did a small part today and am proud to say I voted for Obama twice and Hillary.

(81,238 posts)EXCELLENT work!
It's apparent these people not only don't research these things, but they evidently also watch TV and listen to radio that merely reinforces the talking points. There's seldom any explanation or attempt to dig deeper - and if there is, whatever it is - seems to be largely false.
We can't rely on people reading the NYTimes or Washington Post or Newsweek or other reputable readables. We can't rely on people listening to straight-news stations (of which there are precious few anymore) when they could listen to or watch Infowars. Or limbaugh and clones. Or watch Pox Noise to get their information.
All the more reason to have at least pockets of an educated citizenry - like the folks in communities like these - who can go out and rebut. Who can go out and debunk. Who can go out and present a side or a set of facts that maybe these limited-thinking or propagandized people have never had the chance to hear. It's up to us. It's up to us to be information brokers and curators, too. We HAVE TO be there to talk this shit down. And explain to some of these suckers (they've certainly been played for suckers) that the Affordable Care Act they love and which they've SEEN with their own eyes to have helped them - IS INDEED the "dreaded" "Obamacare."
I'm still amazed at how many people still don't realize this. Shows you how well the propaganda and the quick-hit bumpersticker politics and "elevator pitches" and sloganeering has worked. All the more reason why WE have to get out there and debunk. At every possible opportunity. Sometimes WE are the only education they'll have, and the only reality they'll discover.

(81,238 posts)GOOD WORK!!! Yes, I'm SHOUTING!!!
Excellent job! Did they ask for your zip code?
Thank you.
I live in the town where his office is, when I mentioned that they didn't ask anything else to prove who I was.
They do check. If you've got an aging parent, or a kid away in school, or siblings and/or other relatives, or close friends in the district in question, seems to me you have a "once-removed right" to call in, there, too. I pointed that out at a HUDDLE I attended after the LA Women's March.
One woman I met there said her dad lived in a different district.
"You go visit him, don't you?"
"Yes I do. Of course!"
"When you go visit him, you probably stay with him, right? Or in a nearby motel maybe?"
"Yeah, with him."
"Well, seems to me, because of him, YOU HAVE A PERSONAL INTEREST in that district and what goes on there. When you're there visiting him, seems to me you DEFINITELY do."
And that entitles YOU to call in to whoever represents that district, too. If you have a personal interest there, you have a business there or you work for a business that has offices there, seems to me YOU ARE AFFECTED BY WHAT GOES ON THERE. And you have a RIGHT to weigh in.
So know their zip codes, too. For example, if you call in to your dad's Congressmember, give the staffer for that Congressmember your dad's zip code. And so forth.

(22,651 posts)The 26 republicans who say 'no' today on that list IMO aren't telling the truth. I don't trust Republicans, they're not honest with 'the people'.
In 2018 if it matters for their election 20 of them could point to that list and tell voters, 'I was against it' The other six on that list will vote yes once the actual vote is close to happening.
Its a slimy tactic Republicans use, that works for them many times.

(6,228 posts)Those repubs have their reasons, which aren't mine. However if it fails that's all that matters. So much hate is hidden in that bill. Seniors on Medicaid in nursing homes would lose big too. Once they have spent down their money, they go on Medicaid. We aren't hearing how the cuts will hurt them.
