Trumps National Security Adviser Changed His Mind About Turkey Coup Attempt After His Firm Got Involved
WASHINGTON ― When a faction of the Turkish military attempted to overthrow President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in July, Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn celebrated the coup effort as something worth clapping for.
But a Dutch company headed by a man with ties to Erdogans government hired Flynns intelligence firm about two months later. Since then, Flynn has dramatically reversed his public position on the failed putsch in Turkey. Earlier this month, he wrote a piece in The Hill hailing Erdogans Turkey as a critical U.S. ally and calling on the Obama administration to extradite the cleric Ankara has accused of orchestrating the coup.
<snip>
We need to see the world from Turkeys perspective, Flynn wrote in a piece published on Election Day. We must begin with understanding that Turkey is vital to U.S. interests. Turkey is really our strongest ally against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), as well as a source of stability in the region.
From Turkeys point of view, Flynn wrote, failing to extradite Gulen is like harboring Turkeys Osama bin Laden. He compared Gulen to Sayyid Qutb and Hasan al Banna, leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood, and to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who led the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran.
In a stark reversal from his July comment about Obama and Erdogans closeness, Flynn accused the Obama administration of keeping Erdogans government at arms length ― an unwise policy that threatens our long-standing alliance.

The Turks were able to buy favor with Flynn. You know who else paid him? The Russians. What did they get for their money?
Democrats ask Pentagon to explain 2015 payment Flynn received from Russia
The ranking Democrats on six House congressional committees asked the Pentagon on Wednesday for information about President Trumps national security adviser, suggesting that he may have violated a constitutional restriction by accepting a fee for speaking at a 2015 Moscow event.
Michael Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general, sat with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the event, a celebration for the Kremlin-controlled RT television network.
The lawmakers suggest that the fee he received may have violated the Constitutions emoluments clause, which prohibits top officials from receiving payments from foreign governments.
It is extremely concerning that (Flynn) chose to accept payment for appearing at a gala hosted by the propaganda arm of the Russian government, which attacked the United States in an effort to undermine our election, the members wrote in the letter sent Wednesday.

but the vast majority of democratic voters would approve of taking them down.
When push comes to shove, democrats take country over party. The other guys dont do that, if they did this all goes away today.
