(1,606 posts)TYVM for the pep talk, HRC. But folks, this overweeningly courteous thought represents the past. This nicey-nice, conventional party line BS cost us our future!
WE LOST OUR ASS--literally and metaphorically.
While I wish our politics were civil and conducive to progress spewing like a multicolored fountain by virtue of the public embrace of such polite decorum, it isn't. The polite party line failed--"BIGLY."
Wake the hell up, Democrats! It's time to take the kid gloves off and meet our opponents in the street. Discard the niceties and prepare for civil and political WAR.
3 lanterns should burn in your mind. We are in a fight for the soul and future of our nation.
And haters, go ahead and hate. Whatever--I love you. Get real.

(1,606 posts)I apologize for offending your delicate sensibilities, but we lost our ass. That is not fake news. And a party now searching for its soul and flailing desperately to cling to the progressive gains of the past century cannot rely on the political courtesy or the conventional protocols of politics as usual. This is one Democrat who has been forced by reality to swallow some hard truths. Nice talk will get us nowhere in connecting with people who cast votes. Get real.

(2,198 posts)Houses. We won the popular vote by 4M. We worked our asses off but some did not VOTE their asses off. i don't want you to go anywhere but just respect the many HRC supporters who worked their asses off. Yes, we lost the Electoral vote...the red state vote and two purple states who now wish they had either voted or voted for Hillary. We are all sorry for the loss but we know how to lose with dignity and rise again with intensity and persistence. We are still stronger together! It's not about "nice talk" it's about decency and civility.
And now it is about more hard work and UNITY! We can be diverse and unified at the same time. No one part of us has all the answers but together we can have mutually beneficial solutions. We don't have to even get those die hard 45 supporters. We have and can do it with genuine Democrats with genuine motives and genuine compassion for others. We have done it before and we can do it again!

(3,077 posts)We lost the Senate and never had the House but look at all the Governorships lost. There is a huge imbalance of power across the country. We have a lot to learn and a lot of work to do.
nikibatts
(2,198 posts)Governors are a business we need to focus on more and turn out the vote. The GOP wins when we stay home for whatever reason. They won at least two purple states and one red state because Hillary haters either sat home or voted third party.
Lotusflower70
(3,077 posts)But our losses outnumbered the gains, that's why the power balance has shifted. We definitely need to work the grassroots and ground game. 2018 is very important. Staying on a clear message and unity needs to be emphasized.

I think what slumcamper is tapping into is from an honest but angry place. Fact is, we need both approaches. As you said, no one part of us has all the answers. Hillary herself saying how the Democrat party is very diverse. We need Hillary as a statesperson presence to show this kind of leadership. To calmly explain why Democrats are peoples best option. And we need other prominent Dems to continue to also be spokepeople explaining patiently the ethical, and frankly logical, reasons why they should be voting Democrat.
The problem is that that approach was the only approach prior to this election. Mainly because Obama was elected and then re-elected without having to take the gloves off. Thing have changed, to say the least.
We now need a two pronged weapon. We also need to tap into that anger and passion of many of us including slumcamper and harness it into organized resistance. To confront reps at town halls, to march, to write letters. To be as much, or more, of a thorn in the side of the federal government as the Tea Party was to Obama. Keep reminding folks what a vile corrupt POTUS he is as well as his cronies. And do it in a loud non-polite way. To the point of civil disobedience.
Some are better at the former, some the latter. Hillary is doing what she does best, reminding America of what a real President should sound like, intelligent, rational, and compassionate, and that is needed badly as well.
