The light bulb over my head just came on as to why the Republicans are against women's birth control

There are more minority babies being born now in the USA than white babies...

so the republicans are in a panic thinking that they are losing their future voter pool.

FUCK the GOP!!!

1. They're against all the rights we fought for

including the right to work without a husband's permission and the right to vote and the right to our own property. They want to go back to some Victorian never never land where women were silent and decorative when men were at home and worked like rented mules when they were out.

They want women beaten, poor, and powerless.

Besides, remember; in Republican psychology, the rules don't actually apply to them. Welfare is bad, says conservative living in subsidized housing who uses TANF... Abortion is bad, says Republican who supports Rick Santorum. Etc., etc.

40. I don't think it is that republicans hate women. I think that what republicans hate is, well......

themselves.
Think about it.
When they are not hating women they hate ragheads.
When they are not hating ragheads they are hating people of different color.
When they aren't hating people of different color they hate people less fortunate than themselves.
When they are not hating people less fortunate than themselves they hate anyone with a different lives view.

I would say that what they hate is what they see in the mirror.
Lacking courage, they just have to take it out on the rest of the world.

The ability to claim moral superiority for the express purpose of defining your opponent as immoral in a negative campaign.

Taken to the extreme they don't just say they are "pro-life" which is spin for "anti-abortion" they claim their opponent wants to murder babies as a blood sacrifice to Satan.

Meanwhile, the typical Democrat stands there and says, "I'm not even going to dignify that with a response" and with full confidence that no thinking person would believe that nonsense, go on to lose and wonder why,....over and over.....

For the folks at the top, it can be: a large pool of cheap labor, a large female population in poverty and thus easily controlled, a good talking point to rile up the masses, or any/all of the above.

For the rank and file it can be: a religious and/or morals issue, a taxation issue, a racial issue as you described, just plain stupidity, or any/all of the above.

12. So sad

BC should be available for family planning as a civil right from your first period if you need it for cramps as a civil right. This goes double for third world countries where they marry you off at 11. Little girls shouldn't be forced to give birth before their bodies are developed.
The Catholic church should sponsor world wide birth control as contrition for all the child molestation. Save all those little girls from dying in childbirth.

Making birth control harder to access primarily impacts low income and minority women.

Opposition to abortion is one area in which they do appeal to largely Catholic, Hispanic voters.

19. Well it does make sense, but I will have to go and find some statistics tomorrow, regarding ...

percentage of 'whites' that can afford to purchase the more effective birth control pills.

percentage of low income folks that have babies (and number of babies) as opposed to whites that can (currently afford birth control)

etc.

I think that the objective of the GOP is to make it more expensive for white women (which probably are a higher percentage of the work force that have expensive medical insurance policies fully covering b.c. pill) to purchase birth control (due to not being covered by insurance, etc) therefore resulting in more births.

Also, the GOP PR brigade is trying to make birth control a 'dirty word' which 'might' make republican more apt not to use it.

Also, the GOP is making having abortions more expensive by mandating ultra-sounds which 'most' women would not feel comfortable having pre-abortion and many women can not afford.

I think the GOP is throwing things at the wall and seeing what will stick - all in the hopes for more births.

But these are only 'thoughts' and like I said I have no statistics to back up my theory

21. You can look at it however you wish

it DOESN'T change anything about it. Why waste your time with statistics you don't need for things that you can already see? I usually find doing that to be a waste of time. Do you need to reprove what your own eyes see?

Sometimes this might be useful but here pointless. We ALREADY know how it is. Who are you then trying to prove something to? The GOP? They already know about birth control and statistics. And they don't care either way except that they say NO to it.

AND if they can find a way to charge a minority woman more money for birth control, they will, and they will do the same to a non-minority woman to if they can. MONEY.

SO WHAT IS THE POINT OF FURTHER STATISTICS TO PROVE THE OBVIOUS?

37. The GOP doesn't believe minorities use birth control

They have this racist vision of the black single mom pumping out babies to stay on welfare while they see white women as seeking careers and deciding to not have kids because they don't want a kid to get in the way of their climbing the corporate ladder.

Taking away birth control not only keeps the ever important White Majority intact but it makes sure those usurpers to their patriarchal society are held back.

Birth control in a lot of cases does NOT have anything at all to do with sex.

Many doctors prescribe birth control pills to women for medical reasons and many of those girls/women are not even having sex.

The Republicans are opposed to funding in even those cases.

How am I bashing you by saying 'go get laid, get pregnant, get an abortion, fine with me?"

There is no bash there. I respect your right to do those legal things.

NOW: As for prescribing birth control for other reasons:
1. YOU'RE point was about pregnancy.
2. But lets go with it ....

Let's say I'm depressed or something, and need an antidepressant. guess what - the government doesn't pay for it.

But you're talking about 'birth control'. If you use the pill for a reason other than birth control - then it's just like any other medication.

I'm an Austrian economist, which is why I don't like GOP and I don't particularly like Democrats, but I don't hate either.

It's not that I don't like YOU, it's that I believe you haven't thought things through, that's all.

Paying for your own sex instead of birth control. Isn't that a part of what prostitutes do? Sickening reasoning and just more of the theater of the absurd, and rightwing trash talk....what this bastard was saying was let the prostitute pay for the birth control. Think about that even. Damn. This is what birth control is to many of them, because we have ALL heard this before. And some of them SAY SO. They mock society even in doing this. I just don't know how else to put it. No common decency for their fellow human beings. It's gone in some of them. This is the type of morality we are up against.

27. Not even close. The opposition to abortion transcends demographics

It's rooted in religious principles about the 'sanctity of life.' They oppose minority abortions too. In fact, this is one issue where Republicans think they can pander to blacks and Hispanics (the latter of whom are Catholics), since both groups show evidence of reticence on the issue.

You couldn't be more wrong. This isn't a 'make more white people' issue, it's a 'reach out to minorities' issue.

43. You may be right about Christianity, but I'm talking about abortion

And the actions seem to match the talk. Anti-abortion politicians and activists support legislation that restricts everybody's access to abortions, not just white people. I've never seen an anti-minority component to anything they say or do on this issue. Like I said, this is one issue where they feel they can do minority outreach and attempt to portray liberals as the racists, i.e. 'why do you want to abort all these black and brown babies?'

This pays no dividends to them, but they try it anyway. The racial argument here just doesn't work.

Abortion is just one of their issues.

If they claim a deep belief in Christianity drives their anti-abortion belief, then we can expect them to have a deep belief in Christianity. Yet that deep belief in Christianity does not appear in any other issue.

So they're either lying about Christianity motivating their anti-abortion position, or they're lying about having a deep belief in Christianity.

I never said their whole political philosophy is based off of Christianity. I'm sure parts of it are, but so are plenty of other ideas, including many liberal ones. I'm talking about abortion and abortion only.

How much the abortion issue is tied in with religion is an interesting question. Personally I believe that religion is very important in that regard. It's probably not the whole story, of course. But I'd bet it's a big part of it.

52. That's an easy one. It's called being human

Many people are hypocrites who pick and choose what they want to base their beliefs on. And many people have quite contradictory beliefs and worldviews. Yours is just one of a myriad of examples.

You can certainly argue that doesn't make them good Christians. But that's neither here nor there in my argument, which was restricted to abortion. I'm not understanding why you're trying to turn this into an argument about the conservative mind. My point was that there's a strong religious component to abortion opposition. Whatever else may or may not motivate conservative belief isn't really relevant here. They wouldn't be the first people to conveniently ignore some of their own religious teachings.

Besides, the Bible itself has many contradictions. So it's natural that believers would too.

white birth rate will increase and become more competitive with minority birth rates?

As crazy and racist as today's Repigs are (and as panicked as they may feel at the inexorable demographci trends constantly working against their longer-term viability), your line of thinking strikes me as tortured logic. It seems simpler to say that Repigs hate women and thus their misogyny compels them to pursue policies inimical to all womens' interests, irrespective of race.

I did hear tonight on the news that the GOP is concerned about the higher rate of minority births vs. the lower births to Caucasians.

So, logically thinking - if they are concerned about it then it is natural to think that they must be thinking about what to do about it. Right?

It is a fact that the Republicans are focusing on the birth control issue and the abortion issue this year - when they should be focusing on jobs instead.

It all makes sense to me.

of keeping donations flowing in to the RNC and keeping their nutcase base motivated.

Your hypothesis is plausible, I suppose, but Occam's Razor suggests that a simpler explanation is preferable, all other things being equal. Hence misogyny.

A more interesting question to me by far is why Repigs hate women. What is it about women that Repigs find so threatening?

The Death of the West: How Dying Populations and Immigrant Invasions Imperil Our Culture and Civilization

2001 book by paleoconservative commentator Patrick J. Buchanan...

The West is Dying. Collapsing birth rates in Europe and the United States, coupled with population explosions in Africa, Asia, and Latin America are set to cause cataclysmic shifts in world power, as unchecked immigration swamps and polarizes every Western society and nation.

The Death of the West
details how a civilization, culture, and moral order are passing away and foresees a new world order that has terrifying implications for our freedom, our faith, and the preeminence of American democracy.
