Libertarians don't think about the consequences of their actions. They think "Government....ALLL BAAAADDD!"
So if the want a libertarian paradise I tell them to please move to Somalia. They have no government, no police, no courts and no infrastructure, just perpetual war.
The person I said this to was "shocked".

(20,277 posts)I'll have to remember that. There's a rabid Libertarian at the local watering hole that goes on and on.

(82,383 posts)These people would not really want to live in the world they advocate. They have a romanticized 18th century view of an unregulated economy.

(154,021 posts)this view of government is bad and not available, has a grain of truth, if you live in the country side... and you call 911... the obvious presence of government, will not be there anytime fast, unless they were around the bend.
But I have actually done something different.
State Senator (termed out) who was going over how much we needed to bring down all taxes in this state to zero. So I asked him... not about the roads, let alone the schools, or the fire engines. I asked him who would pay HIS SALARY... the rapt audience had an aha moment.

(25,771 posts)I suggested that to one of my college govt. students. His discussion post on government regulation (this was in the wake of the BP spill in the gulf) was headed: "Government regulations: aka socialism" I asked him why he was going to a state supported college. He shut up for the rest of the semester.
