(21,925 posts)Was there a physical problem that was being covered up by the pain killers? If the horse couldn't perform dressage, was it because it was lame? I'll have to google this to get the details about the lawsuit.

After googling this it appears the Romneys were sued for fraud. The sedatives and narcotics were hiding a defect in the horse's hoof. The expert who testified in the case, a vet, said he had never seen a horse more drugged than this one in 38 years of professional practice.
"In my 38 years of practice, I have never come across a drug screen such as this where the horse has been administered so many different medications at the same time.
There's a full copy of the lawsuit complaint at the link below.

(14,881 posts)When they bought Super Hit, x-rays showed an anomaly with his coffin bone (major bone of the hoof) which the vet at the time said probably would not be a problem.
Apparently they had Super Hit on anti-inflammatories throughout his training, in order to prevent problems. The woman that bought him knew about the bone issue, but I expect did not know how many drugs were in his system at the time of vetting.
She used a vet Ebeling recommended, but if she was his client that would not be a big surprise. Top name trainer; she thought she could trust him.
I'll tell you right now after a lifetime in the horse world, it is not uncommon in my experience for some trainers to pass off their major client's problem horses onto new clients. The rMoney's matter; new client is just there to clean up the messes.
When Super Hit's new owner told Eberling that he didn't "feel right," Ebeling blamed it on her riding. No big surprise there; just gaslight the new client. Most of the time they get away with it simply because they are "Big Name Trainers" (BNTs in the horse world).
Dollars to donuts that Super Hit "felt funny" to Anne Romney and Jan Ebeling, too, and that's when she decided to dump him. People like that wreck a lot of horses along their way and just keep them drugged to the hilt until they can pass them along to the unsuspecting.

(61,608 posts)The cruelty, the pettiness, the criminality - it's just mindboggling. These people are billionaires. They could have put the horse out to pasture for the rest of his life but no, they had to sell him.

What do Cub Scouts do when they see a little girl on a horse? Mitt says now. We picked up stones and threw them [at her].

(21,925 posts)But I never threw rocks at little girls or defenseless animals. One time I threw a metal garden hose nozzle at a crowd of kids playing tag. I was "it" and I was frustrated because I couldn't outrun them. The metal nozzle flew up in the air and landed on the nose of a little girl who was five years old, the same age as me. My dad came out of the house and beat my behind but good. Then he drove me to the little girl's house and had me apologize to her and kiss her on the cheek. It was the first and last time I ever did something like that.
I wonder if the Cub Scouts would endorse this kind of behavior from Romney.

KurtNYC
(14,549 posts)which might not even be true but the attitude that 'this is just what all normal Cub Scouts would do in this situation' and finding it funny is odd in an adult. Romney plays fast and furious with the truth so why would the campaign or Romney himself go with THIS story? I have to think part of the answer is -- because this is Romney being Romney.

(10,136 posts)but that as an adult he brags about it as if it were normal and expected behavior. The Seamus story - that wasn't something a political enemy dug up: it was something Romney himself brought up as an example of his problem-solving abilities.
The guy's either not right, or not from this planet.

(14,549 posts)maybe they are trying to spin this stuff as "cute" before people just find it and see the pattern for themselves but more likely this is what passes for cute humor in the bubble of BS surrounding Prince Romney.
