Desert Trip concert prepares for seniors tripping on marijuana

This weekend’s Desert Trip music festival is set to bring out thousands of classic rock fans over the age of 50, and event organizers are getting ready in case a few baby boomers get way too high on pot.

While its sister music festival Coachella (CA) prepares a medical staff ready to handle overdoses from a variety of drugs from meth to ecstasy, the Desert Trip held in Indio, California this weekend will be more concerned with issues related to marijuana and alcohol, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Featuring three days of legendary acts like the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and the Who, both event staff and local officials have taken steps to ensure that few pot-related medical issues occur among the older crowd.

Although recent music festivals in California have begun to install medication areas for concertgoers with valid medical marijuana recommendations, the Desert Trip website reads “Sorry, Daddy-O, medical marijuana cards are not valid.”

Indio police Sgt. Daniel Marshall says their department anticipates trouble from attendees who “might not have been to a concert in 40 years,” and thus, may not be aware of the high potency of modern-day marijuana and infused edibles.

Dr. Andrew Kassinove, medical director of the emergency department at Indio’s John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, expects the 50 and over crowd to suffer more heart attacks, strokes and injuries than at Coachella, where the age of the average ticket holder is 23. He also anticipates that some of “the crowd could go back to the LSD days.”

Ted Withrow, a 52-year-old Malibu resident flying down to Desert Trip, also warns fellow audience members who might be planning to score some pot from their kids for the weekend.
“These people better beware—they’re going to be sitting on a chair drooling on themselves,” Withrow told the Journal.

so no idea why this is being posted today. Didn't see anyone tripping but the smell of weed was around plenty and the only medical problems I saw were dehydration (it was crazy HOT). No arrests, if a cop saw you smoking weed, they just asked you to put it out. Otherwise, an amazing weekend of music.
