I will admit that I am stressing quite a bit about tomorrow's debate. While I have a lot of confidence in Hillary Clinton and her abilities, as a woman of a certain age who has had to deal with the occasional (fortunately fairly rare) boorish, self-entitled misogynist--with varied success--I know how hard it is. I also know how those watching may give incredible scrutiny to the woman's reaction while giving unbelievable latitude to even the worst behavior by the man. Add to this the low expectations that might well work to Trump's favor, if, perchance, he is able to carry off a more dignified, low key presentation--even while deflecting questions left and right... well I am uneasy.
So, knowing this, I realize I could only watch live on tv, while imbibing rather heavily to contain my stress--which frankly I don't feel like doing the night before a very long workday. So, I've decided the best thing is to listen only via NPR on the radio while I do a fairly intense fitness walk with the dog, weather amenable, or on the treadmill, if not. I figure I can watch video later once I know what to expect...
So, how are others feeling-- excited, concerned, positive, hesitant, incredibly confident or some other combination of emotions? Will you watch? Will you turn off the sound? Will you only listen?

(182,791 posts)Not overconfident I just am not stressed about it and I have no real reason to explain it. Maybe it's that I've been exercising a lot starting about 2 weeks ago. I don't know.

(53,339 posts)I'll be watching on cable.
This first head-to-head debate between the two will be historic, and I am optimistic. I may pick up some beer or wine to sip, but no drinking games. I want to be clear-headed to take it all in.
(I'm so excited I first posted in the wrong place by mistake, lol. )

(449 posts)Whereas Trump, the egotistical, overly self-confident maniac has been hitting the campaign trail as hard as ever, Hillary has been drilling for over a week with some of the best in the business. I have read in various sources that the Clinton team has four Trump surrogates in their debate prep, each playing a different "personality" of Trump (belligerent misogynist surely being one of them). She has a vastly better command of the facts in general, and for this debate, you can be assured that she will be prepared to draw that contrast.
I will be watching!

(3,739 posts)When Trump tries to be "Presidential", he sounds flat, boring,dull.. If he is his "off the rails, angry, rude, stupid" authentic self, that will play into Hillary's hands. I worry more about the audience and the moderators because I have no idea if they will either rise to the occasion or not or if they will follow the debate rules.

My lovely wife and I are not worried at all.
Possible outcomes:
1. Trump will lose miserably and claim victory
2. Trump will shit his pants, lose, and claim victory
3. Trump will shit his pants, cry for 45 minutes, claim that he was viciously attacked, and claim victory.
3. Trump will chicken out at the last minute, spend the night puking into a gold plated toilet at Trump Tower, and claim victory.

(65,173 posts)If Trump is doing really badly, and I think he will, I might sneak a peek in. I am a little stressed due to low expectations for Trump. And the media just won't treat Trump like the dangerous moron and appalling candidate that he is. The truth has no bias.

(24,412 posts)I have every confidence in Hillary Clinton and her command of the issues and her ability to be POTUS but almost none in the media and my biggest fear is that the media/pundits will spin the debates so that they can either proclaim Trump the winner or at least make him seem more palatable as a legitimate Presidential candidate. I think that the media doesn't *want* Hillary to be POTUS and considers her "old news" but I think that, at least on some level, they recognize that Trump is grossly underqualified for the job (but still needs the "horse race" and ratings, so they keep propping him up).

(13,390 posts)Everything Trump says falls into one or more of the following categories, ignorance, absurd hyperbole, antagonistic, offensive and then some.
I would possibly chuckle, roll my eyes, be outraged, but I will learn nothing about either candidate that would influence my vote. It's not worth my time.

(46,179 posts)She's smarter, more knowledgable, and more experienced than her opponent. She should knock it out of the park. Trump is a moron. That said, Trump supporters will think he won. Clinton supporters will think she won. I don't honestly know if this debate will change anyone's mind; it may make some Republicans even more uncomfortable and frustrated than they already are.
I wouldn't be watching at all, but I'm allowing a student to make a (factual) report to the class the next day as an extension of some of what we've done, so I feel obligated. It will be running in the background while I grade papers.
