ABC news had a segment about how people went to two web sites mostly, to get information about the zika virus.
The first one was the CDC, which had accurate information.
The one visited more often was "Natural News," which posted conspiracy theories about how zika was a "hoax."
Figures.
Just look at all the total shit, satire and obvious hoaxes people get suckered into.

(25,586 posts)Heck, well over half of DU seems to buy into one idiot conspiracy theory or alternative health fad or another, and it's a site composed of people who are smart enough to coherently express themselves in a written format and to form reasonably cogent political opinions.
Imagine what your average group of dipshits gets up to.

And if the internet is your only source of information, you may not have the ability to recognize total crap when you see it. If you have never looked at an encyclopedia or almanac, if you've never read a book, if you've never actually done research and written a paper (as compared to buying a paper off the internet), if you've never visited a debunking site such as Snopes, if you haven't done those things then you simply have no tools to judge accuracy and veracity.
And sadly, if your only source of "news" is the Fox network, then you are on the receiving end of out and out lies on a daily basis.
