Has anyone here ever had a 'Public Records' request filed on them?

Is it possible to find out who filed the request? I received a security alert that there is a ‘pending or inactive’ public records report request filed on me. This is the first time this alert has shown up, so I don’t see how it could be inactive.

This is concerning because I have been dealing with a stalker situation, for years. It is someone I went to school with and was friends with, but whose obsessive behavior and psychological issues caused me to end the relationship. She hasn't accepted that, very well, and every few years she launches another disturbing attempt at ‘reconnecting’. Even to the point of watching me, from a distance. It reached the point where I notified security, at work, just in case.

The alert was delivered on Friday. Today my phone keeps ringing but when I answer, nobody responds. This is her MO. Unfortunately I no longer have caller ID on the land line, so I can't confirm this is her. The phone isn't in my name, but the house it is connected to is.

It just seems that there has to be some way of finding out if this is the individual who made the request. I can’t think of anyone else who would bother. Needless to say, I am a little unnerved. Perhaps I am just being paranoid.

It monitors credit cards, my SSN, etc. And, apparently, public record requests.

I'm checking every single day so maybe unless I get a 'delivered' notification, I can write this off as a fluke.

And the stalker situation does suck. I found out that at one time she was living only a couple of miles down the road. When ever I was out, anywhere, I spent more time looking over my shoulder, than anything else. Fortunately, I found out she moved, again. She never stays anywhere for long.

So many companies make it very hard to talk to actual people now, but I hope that monitoring service has a toll-free number or something.

My situation involved an old high school friend who got hooked on hard drugs. I forgot that I gave him my phone number, and he started calling me "out of the blue" about every night at 3 am. He'd flip-flop between saying that I was the best friend he'd ever known to saying he'd kill me if he ever saw me. He demanded to know where I lived. He even asked me to help him rob a bank one time! "With your brains and my connections, I know we can get away with it!" I told him he was nuts!

I didn't have a listed number, but he probably could have found my address based on the number if he was more computer savvy and not so sick in the head. It finally stopped, but I had a couple nightmares about him back then. I never contacted the cops. I later looked him up in public records around here (Ohio often shows court records online for free) and saw that he went to jail for felony theft. I hope he got some help for his drug addictions, and I also hope that I never see him again anywhere.

EDIT: Anyway, your situation sounds worse if that person has actually followed you around. I'm sorry that you've gone through that!

Calling them, directly, is probably the best thing to do.

I was very concerned when my sister and mom died, last year, that this person would show up at the church and cause a scene. To my relief, she didn't. My family was on alert, though. She is an extremely emotionally unbalanced individual who has a strange obsession with me. Make that a strange and creepy obsession. I'm pretty sure I could out run her, but she has an equally unbalanced son, and that combination can be really, really bad.

In my case, I thought about calling the police but I figured they'd laugh about it being a "lover's quarrel" or something. As Seinfeld said, "Not that there's anything wrong with that," but I was somehow concerned that's how it would look. I wouldn't be worried about that now.

I was even more troubled by the idea of them doing something idiotic like giving him my address as listed on a formal complaint, or who knows what. I didn't care if I had assurances otherwise. Cops can do DUMB things sometimes.

About the time I was ready to change phone numbers, it ended.

Best wishes to you, and sorry again that you've had those troubles.

I was having trouble logging in and had to reset my password but couldn't because the way they had my name loaded was strange - first name and then a space and then my middle initial. So the bank manager helped me get that fixed.

I was told that since it isn't a completed request, maybe it is nothing to worry about. Who ever filed it may have canceled the request, or it could have been an 'error'. If it does go through, I want to find out who filed it.

Honestly, just the request, or maybe even just the non response phone calls wouldn't have freaked me out, but given the stalker history and these two things happening one right after the other, well, call it PTSD. I don't want to have to deal with that whole looking over my shoulder every time I leave the house situation, again.

I know nothing about that whole system. I live a pretty simple life so I can't imagine what anyone wants to know about me. Except, of course, for this individual trying to track me down. I moved and retired, so finding me might be a bit of a challenge.
