In the video, Jimenez preached to his congregation that they should not be grieving the homosexual victims of the shootings, comparing those killed to pedophiles.
"Are you sad that 50 pedophiles were killed today?" asked Jimenez. "Um no. I think thats great. I think that helps society. I think Orlando, Florida, is a little safer tonight. The tragedy is that more of them didnt die. The tragedy is Im kind of upset he didnt finish the job because these people are predators. They are abusers."
Jimenez went on to criticize the government, saying he wished homosexuals would be put in front of a firing squad.
"I wish the government would round them all up, put them up against a firing wall, put the firing squad in front of them and blow their brains out," Jimenez said.

(18,837 posts)And the sad fact is (for Cruz) that while he pandered to them, they weren't there for him.
Imagine a club of like-minded zealots deciding that Cruz was "too much" for them.
I said it all along...no matter how bad Trump is, Cruz would have been worse, because with Trump this is all an ego-stroking goof, a "deal" that he wants to close.
But Cruz was serious and deliberate. We dodged a bullet on that one, folks.

(18,837 posts)He's not "one of us."
And I break ranks with many Christians because I don't subscribe to "us" anyway.
My faith is a personal thing, and it's not bound to a group of people assembled in a church.

(8,311 posts)He WAS very religious, but was having a very difficult time with guilt over what I considered acceptable lifestyles -- particularly, he was polyamorous, but felt extreme guilt because it hurt someone he loved (a far better reason than "the Bible says it's bad) even though she claimed she was okay with being primary and having a fluid monogamy rule. My take was that communication was required for any poly relationship to work. His was that if his need for a variety of sexual partners hurt someone, it was not worth risking. He also felt his reliance on pornography was feeding that need.
He's since started studying for a religious studies major, volunteers in his local church, found a wife who agreed with his views and would stand up for herself (and has, he's since stopped going to conventions where he could always find a willing partner unless she was there, at her request). He got custody back of his two oldest boys, he's expecting a fourth son (his new wife and he had Angela Grace already), his boys are doing 100% better in a stable household and a better school district... and he counts it all as blessings, not entitlement.
He thinks the charlatans who tell the poor to tithe the little they have to get monetary prosperity are exactly that. Even before this tragedy, he was posting that Muslims had the right to practice their faith peacefully, just like Christians, and that Christians should stand together to protect freedoms for all.
He's been sharing all the "love conquers hate" and other expressions from mainstream Christianity condemning the attacks, as "we are all sinners, I am not God to judge you because you sin differently than I do."
There's a reason we're friends.

His man is a naturalized citizen. he comes to this country to cheer killing. I favor any actions taken against him and his livelihood that are legal.

(18,837 posts)1). Because you don't know me
2). Because I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and say that you're not an ignorant bigot yourself (although you very well could be, but I'm still willing to give you the benefit of the doubt)
3). Because no, it does not "go with the job," and if you truly believe that, I'm withdrawing the benefit of the doubt I gave you in #2 above
4). Because if you make blanket statements like the one you made, you're no better than this guy (although I'll give you the benefit of the doubt one more time and suggest that maybe you said what you said in the heat of the moment).

(3,660 posts)How arrogant and persecution complex driven does someone have to be to take a description of some Christians to apply to all? This Christian wants gays killed. If you don't it's not about you
1) Irrelevant per the above
2) I very much am bigoted against people who think gays deserve to die.
3) Well Abbe Meslier notwithstanding, being a Christian pastor is a job with a pretty solid expectation of being a Christian. We were told yesterday Christians didn't call for the death of gays. This one and many others certainly do.
4) WHAT blanket statement? Cite or retract.

(18,837 posts)Because that's what it is. HIS type, and the type of anyone who flocks to his church.
But no, it's not "all" religion. My feeling is that if someone wants to distance themselves from religion, fine...it's their choice and none of my business.
But i don't accept this guy as my spokesman. I'm just as reviled by him as any "non-Christian" here.

(18,837 posts)I sat in a church in California in which the pastor got a bug up his ass over gays being "welcomed" into a local Methodist church. When he did it the first time, I kind of went to my happy place and tuned him out. Then, two weeks later, he pretty much repeated the whole screed. So I stopped going to that church.
"Faith" and "Religion" are two separate things for me. "Faith" is what I believe, "church" is where I go, and so far I haven't been to church in 2016. Why? Because my "faith" doesn't require "organized religion."
So I don't advocate homophobia, I don't advocate killing gays, and I think the only thing that was "deserved" in Orlando was the bullet (or bullets) that ended the killing spree.
I know that religion is not popular on DU. At times like this it makes it difficult for me to participate because I don't take ownership of what these crazy bastards dispense. They're not speaking for me, but I still get the backlash of blanket statements about "Christians." And if it's a blanket statement, it's calling me out, and insulting my beliefs, and in my experience at DU, the "juries" here give a consistent free pass on that kind of behavior, so I've stopped fighting it.

I will note that we do not see in this thread anyone trying to mitigate this preacher's hate by citing examples of hate in other faiths, which I do see regularly on DU. Posts about the hate in some faiths are answered with 'but this Christian guy does it too' as if that makes it better, as if religious brands make a big difference outside the minds of the religious.

"Are you sad that 50 pedophiles were killed today?" asked Jiminez.
Wanna bet that the percentage of pedophiles in his profession is higher than in the gay population? Using Jiminez's brand of logic, what does he think we should do to all of his colleagues? Put them all in the same category as being pedophiles?
And where in the Bible did Jesus ever support such violence against gays, Jiminez? You are not worthy of the "Pastor" title.

(153 posts)He is making a LOT of assumptions about the sexual orientation of the persons killed in that club. His attempt at equating GLBT persons to sodomites and pedophiles is ridiculous enough, but he takes an extra leap and assumes that every person killed there was gay and meets his fu*ked up definitions. Since there were, apparently, heterosexuals who enjoyed visiting the club, he either assumes their heterosexuality magically spared them from the bullets or he assumed that only gay people were in that club. I'm betting his already poor reasoning assumes the latter.
For a man who thinks others should be following his personally selected interpretations of scripture, he clearly can't think through the smallest of facts in a worldly event, let alone attempt to assign labels and punishment to the victims. I'd call him an willful idiot, but that would be far too generous. His demand of human sacrifices for his "god" based on his limited knowledge and assumptions about the victims of this horrific event is evidence enough that he is the predator.

(18,186 posts)Using their "GOD" to promote and foment violence and murder on the "children of God."
Will Jimenez kill his own children if they turn out gay?
This is why I hate all Abrahamic religions, all of them--Christians, Jews and Muslims believe they ARE gods, they do not follow their gods. They deny everything in their "holy books" and make their own goddamned rules. They want to be judge, jury and executioner.
Roger Jimenez himself is probably a pedophile, since church pastors are one of the "profiles" for those who abuse and rape children. One wonders how many children Roger Jimenez may have molested, because he is projecting some serious inward hate outward in this sermon.
Makes me wish there was some just and pissed off deity to thump these evil, violent Christians in the head, but alas, if there is a god at all, it ADORES the murderous, the hoarders, the narcissists and the cruel.
There's no god to stand up against Roger Jimenez and his evil; we humans are all we've got, and we appear to be losing against the OH-SO-RIGHTEOUS.
Have I said how much I hate the Jewish, Christian and Muslim faiths? They cause more misery, poverty, pain and sorrow than any other institutions on earth.

Pastor Roger Jimenez was born in Venezuela. His family came to Christ through the influence of American missionaries. He was led to the Lord by his father when he was 4 years old. His family moved to the United States when he was very young.
Joann Jimenez was born in Northern California. At the age of 17 she was working full time and attending a local community college near Sacramento. The influence at this college had convinced her to be an atheist, even though she was raised somewhat catholic. Joann was saved when a Christian teenage boy, who had recently started working with her, began to present the gospel to her. After months of conversations and debating, late one night while closing, Joann decided to reject atheism and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal saviour! She immediately began to go to church with her Christian co-worker, got baptized and began to grow in her walk with God. Joann would later marry the young Christian co-worker that presented the gospel to her.
Roger and Joann Jimenez have been happily married since June of 2004. The Lord has blessed them with wonderful children and they are praying that God will give them many more.
