Last November I took my first ever cruise, and when we docked at Key West, our last port before returning to Ft. Lauderdale, there was a downpour so ferocious that disembarking was suspended for a good 30 minutes. Then my shore excursion was cancelled because, as I was informed, I'd be wading through ankle deep water. So I took a different excursion.

Oh, and all of the locals told us that this was normally the dry season.

Key West seems like a perfectly nice place, but it will be one of the very first places to go as the oceans rise.

your trip to Key West was not an indicator of impending disaster. You no doubt docked after a tropical storm.

June through November is the hurricane season, with September being the most likely time for severe tropical storms to hit. In anticipation of such storms, mandatory evacuations of the area are not uncommon.

I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all but I've lived here thirty years. Ankle deep water has always been an expected nuisance after a quickie storm, but since we sit on coral rock, it drains off eventually.
