Ok, this is pretty funny.......Indiana women calling the Govenor regarding their periods......

Who do you talk to about your period—your best friend? Your doctor? Your conservative governor?

Last week, Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed into law extreme anti-abortion legislation that bans abortions on the basis of the race, sex, or potential disability of a fetus. Now, a growing number of the state’s women have decided: If Pence cares so much about what goes on in their vaginas and uteruses, well, they should probably keep him in the loop. By telling him all about their periods.

For the past week, Hoosier women have been dialing up the governor’s office to fill him in on the details of their menstrual cycles. “I need to get a message to the governor that I am on day three of my period,” one caller told Pence’s office. “My flow seems abnormally heavy, but my cramps are much better.”

requiring investigation by law enforcement. I suggested that women send him all their used sanitary products so he could personally examine them for signs of miscarriage, since 90% of miscarriages were so early the woman had no idea she'd been pregnant.

He withdrew the bill two days later. I hope somebody clued him in to my suggestion.

33. He came VERY CLOSE to being elected Attorney General
Fri Apr 1, 2016, 10:53 PM
Apr 2016

The asshole who proposed this is state senator Mark Obenshain, Republican.

He proposed legislation that would require anyone having knowledge of a woman having a miscarriage to report the miscarriage to local law enforcement along with details such as her name, address, date/time of miscarriage, location of the "product of the miscarriage," etc., etc.

He withdrew the bill after he was attacked in every state newspaper and his office was swamped with phone calls, letters, faxes, and angry visitors.

I'm an EMT with a rural volunteer rescue squad. Several of us signed and faxed a letter to him telling him, if his proposal became law, we would refuse to obey -- his proposal included language requiring "medical personnel" to report miscarriages to local law enforcement.

He ran for Virginia Attorney General in 2013. The results were so close the election went to a recount; he lost to our current AG, Mark Herring, by fewer than 1,000 votes statewide.

Abbie Hoffman and the YIPpies and others in the 1960s knew this.

I am also reminded of a story Molly Ivins told:

1993 http://www.motherjones.com/politics/1993/05/funs-fight

The Fun's in the Fight

Our Texas freedom-fighters have been prone to misbehavior ever since. A recent Ku Klux Klan rally in Austin produced an eccentric counter- demonstration. When the fifty Klansmen appeared (they were bused in from Waco) in front of the state capitol, they were greeted by five thousand locals who had turned out for a "Moon the Klan" rally. Citizens dropped trou both singly and in groups, occasionally producing a splendid wave effect. It was a swell do.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/turk-pipkin/steve-fromholz-a-guest-in_b_4663250.html

Steve and I did quite a few shows together over the years, but our command performance was in 1993 when we joined hands with a group of adventurous Austin types and mooned the Klan in front of the Texas Capitol. That’s right, the KKK was coming to town, and rather than protest and scream expletives at their racism and hatred, we decided it’d be better to turn the other cheek.

“It came to me as a flash... of light,” said Fromholz, who dreamed up the mass mooning. “If you don’t feed their hate, they’ll starve to death.”

Let me summarize by saying that Fromholz’s idea was beyond sublime. Our group began by singing, “If you’re happy and you know it, Moon the Klan.” Unable to reach the front row of the counter-protest, we brought up the rear by dropping our drawers. Many of us were wearing boxers. Mine had smiley faces on them. One guy’s drawers said, “Support Live Music in Austin.” As Molly Ivins described the scene, “It was a gas.”

from the tone of your post that you're upset, and make no mistake, the law is upsetting. I don't know why you're in Malaysia, but your words don't read like those of someone on a humanitarian mission. However, extrapolating your logic to your current locale would suggest that you accept that victims of human rights violations such as human trafficking are responsible for their own suffering because they didn't get enough people to vote the right way. That's probably not the case but sometimes when one paints with such a broad brush one can't help but get some of that paint on one's self.

We had a spoiler in each of the last 2 elections. I personally voted for the non-teabagger candidate most likely to win. Unfortunately, the 1st time around the official Dem candidate trailed with only 20% in the polls right up to the end, but wouldn't quit. Had she dropped out, the former Dem turned Indie would have won.

Instead it was LePage 38%
Indie Whatzisname 37%
Official Dem 20%
4 or 5 other indies 5%

Same thing happened the last election, except this time it was LePage 38%, Michaud 37%, and Indie Whatzisname 20or so %

I also have read that there was a lot of outside money (ie Koch) involved. Listening to the radio there were at least 3 LePage ads for every 1 Michaud.

It is the candidate's JOB to motivate the voters.
If the voters are not motivated to turn out and vote, it is ALWAYS a Failure of Leadership.
Blaming the voters is a recipe for continued failures.

If the "leaders" have the moral courage to truthfully examine their own failures, THEN something can be done, but to just blame the voters, shrug your shoulders, walk away, and do the same thing next election is STUPID.

It is EZ being Blue in a Blue State. All you have to do is follow the crowd.
In 2006, my wife and I moved from Big Blue Minneapolis to dark Red Rural Arkansas,
and have carried the fight to the front lines.

Due to the low population density, our vote weighs much more than it ever did in Minneapolis.
In 2008, 1 out of 3 people up in these old mountains voted for "the Black Guy"".
It wouldn't take much to flip our district.

Of course, you can just relax on your high horse and insult all the good, courageous, hard fighting Democrats who are working to change things.
I don't have much respect for those hollering insults from the peanut gallery.
Come join us in the front lines.
The South is BEAUTIFUL, and belongs to us all.

Voter turnout numbers are a closely-calculated political strategy to gain advantage for your candidate or against your opponent. A candidate who neglects it, is doomed to be a loser for that inattention. People will turn out to vote in droves for a candidate who they feel is "one of them". They are always lukewarm to voting for someone who they have been convinced is their superior, and are needed just as foot soldiers to facilitate his/her graqndiose plans.

And demonizing those segments of the population that frighten poor, defenseless, misogynistic little cowards – namely, uneducated white men – such as women, People of Color, the LGBT community, et cetera, then the lowest common denominators of the social equation don't even notice when draconian restrictions are applied to them.

I hate conservatism with every fiber of my being.

Along about the time Hillary was there 6 of us faculty wives were pregnant, due to deliver in the summer. We talked a lot about a possible birth-in in the president's office.

You know...there is something to this! The GOP literally makes it life or death inside the uterus out of majestic care for that organ so women should call in whenever there is a change to the baby maker. Seems the GOP leaders are that serious ladies. Also, on a side note, I get IBS a lot as I get older...why does my fellow male ignore my internal organs? Why has he forsaken my colon?

I've suffered from kidney stones all my life...is that organ covered under the GOP Master Plan in Impressing God With Kickass Freedumb laws? Technically since God gave us all freewill, what is the GOP trying to prove here? That they can be the biggest assholes toward God? If God made all our organs for us, then why does the GOP covet one over all the others? Is the uterus like the Jesus among the organ hierarchy? What does that say for things like our appendix?

Lemme go get my Bible, no doubt it is in the chapter on Uterusii.

66. Abortion based on gender or race should be discouraged.

The law should not have been passed because it seeks to control what pregnant women do and don't do but, as a general idea, the concept of discouraging women from having abortions because of the gender or race of the foetus is the right thing to do.

India and China have a long history of parents deciding to abort females just because they want a son, so much so that there is a demographic imbalance. Daughters are seen as expensive to raise and of little social and economic value. This is wrong and perpetuates the myth that girls are worse than boys.

The idea of aborting a foetus just because it has the wrong skin colour is also wrong and plainly racist.

I will probably get flak for this but, to me, abortion based solely on gender or race is shocking, wrong, sexist and racist.

71. My point is not about belief or lack of belief in abortion.

My point is simply this: If a woman says that she had an abortion because it was going to be a girl and girls are not worth having or if a woman says that she had an abortion because it was going to be black and blacks are worthless, then that to me is shocking. It shouldn't be illegal but the very idea of it is wrong and goes against all that the Democratic Party stands for.

Are you aware that sex-selection in this country is used to prevent the transmission of sex-linked disabling or fatal diseases?

We are not India or China.

Abortion is part of the continuum of women's health care, and your feelings of "wrongness" are just that: your feelings. Women are moral agents. Trust them to know the necessities of their own lives.

I have absolute trust in all women to know the necessities of their own lives but having a political position does not mean being totally incapable of nuance, argument and hypothesis. For example, I am in favour of the legalisation of all drugs because the war against drugs has failed. Does that make me incapable of agreeing with the statement 'Heroin should not be sold in school canteens.'? No.

Similarly, I can, and I do, say that abortion should be legally and easily available to all women. I also say that nobody should interfere with a woman's right to choose whether to have a baby or not. That said, my clear position will not stop from agreeing with the statement 'Abortion based solely on gender or race (no medical or other reasons) because of the assumption that some genders or races are less worthy is repugnant'.

You might disagree with that statement, of course, and that's fine, but that's up to you. As far as I'm concerned, it's bad in China and it's bad everywhere. The statement is not country specific. Should it be made illegal and is it anybody's business? No, but not everything that is legal and nobody's business is morally right.

Just because you hold a belief, it does not mean that you become incapable of thinking about it from different angles. It's no more of a specious argument than saying 'Heroin should not be sold in school canteens.' An idea so clear and straightforward cannot be specious. And, yes, it's just a feeling but so is every other political and moral belief that we hold. That applies to you too.

How many abortions in the US are performed yearly solely due to gender or race of fetus?

Laws banning sex-selective abortion purport to combat gender discrimination. However, the text of the laws and the statements made in support of the bans during legislative hearings make it clear that they are intended to place restrictions on abortion services generally. Moreover, the laws purport to solve a problem that may not exist at all in the United States.
