A tweet? A fkin tweet?
So glad to know you got our backs in WI...
Couldn't take TWO SECONDS from his own reelection campaign. We can all agree that his reelection is important but this election in Wisconsin was MUCH bigger than any one office...
We refer to him as the biggest Rock Star this party has ever seen; then FKIN ACT LIKE IT!!!

(24,331 posts)"One of the most important elections ever"? No. Interesting asterisk which will be consigned to a history book along with Walker at the next general election.

(12,461 posts)I don't see how Obama himself could have changed the outcome. Expect the man to do miracles, Recalls hardly ever successful.
Are we going to go through this circular firing squad shit?

(23,720 posts)You can just take that shit somewhere else and try to sell it. If Obama had gotten involved in the recall, then you would be here bitching that he butted in on a States issue and that- that is the reason for the loss. So just take your outrage somewhere else.

(8,556 posts)Especially the Washington establishment, of which Obama is now a part of.
Traditionally, the way it's been done is that an election is held, a winner is decided, and they fulfill a term. Some people don't like the idea of messing with that and incorporating change into every step of the process.
It's the age old conflict between change and stability. Do you allow for establishment of authority for fixed periods of time, or do you operate in a state of flux 24/7? There are arguments for both, though the way we've done things here leans toward the former.
I think that's what was going on here. That and the fact that the president's pollsters predicted a Walker victory, so he didn't want to invest too much political capital in a losing effort. If the president got balls deep in Wisconsin and still lost it would look bad. This way he has no negative baggage here. He kept his distance and thus is not associated in the popular mind with a losing cause.
As it stands now, this doesn't have much bearing on November. But had Obama gotten involved and lost, it probably would have.

(6,960 posts)I think some of the other comments here are kind of missing the deeper point of the OP.
It was a one day-before-the-election Tweet!
That was the most public support the leader of the Democratic Party gave Tom Barrett.
I remember listening to one progressive talk radio show earlier last month when they didn't even know if Pres. Obama had even endorsed Tom Barrett!
Perhaps Pres. Obama couldn't 'saved' the day, but where was Vice President Biden? Couldn't he have made an appearance in-state?
Where were a couple of strong, supportive statements from Pres. Obama during May?
And the dismissive attitude towards the recall effort I heard from several insider Democratic strategists and/or pundits ... this was an important morale-building election.
If the projections stand and Walker stays in office, this is going to probably mean that Wisconsin goes red in the fall -- demoralized Democratic activists in that state just may not work their butts off for Obama despite what they insist now.
I think the Obama campaign made a serious strategic error in their hands-off public approach to the recall.

(1,055 posts)Wisconsin Dems were idiots by putting the same guy Walker beat in 2010 against him in 2012.
STUPID STUPID STUPID.
Expecting Obama to support the stupid is even more stupid.
