Destiny Raynor: Dr. Phillips High student tells what it's like to lose home, live in motel
Tuesdays Orlando Sentinel/UCF Florida Forward forum on homelessness included Dr. Phillips High School ninth-grader Destiny Raynor. She and her family became homeless in Seminole County because of the recession and ended up living in a motel, where they had to decide each night who slept on the bed and who slept on the floor.
In this video, she talks about what it was like to lose her home and live in a motel.
Her family found an apartment and jobs through a program spearheaded by the local hospitality industry.
The homelessness forum was the latest in our Florida Forum series of live panel discussions. About 200 people gathered at the Church Street Ballroom to hear our panel, which included two panelists who had once been homeless themselves. Ten percent of ticket sales benefitted the Coalition for the Homeless in Central Florida.
