Wow, links have died but I found this.

http://mailman.lbo-talk.org/2003/2003-February/005865.html

While "Donahue" does badly trail both O'Reilly and CNN's Connie Chung in the ratings, those numbers have improved in recent weeks. So much so that the program is the top-rated show on MSNBC, beating even the highly promoted "Hardball With Chris Matthews."

Although Donahue didn't know it at the time, his fate was sealed a number of weeks ago after NBC News executives received the results of a study commissioned to provide guidance on the future of the news channel.

That report--shared with me by an NBC news insider--gives an excruciatingly painful assessment of the channel and its programming. Some of recommendations, such as dropping the "America's News Channel," have already been implemented. But the harshest criticism was leveled at Donahue, whom the authors of the study described as "a tired, left-wing liberal out of touch with the current marketplace."

The study went on to claim that Donahue presented a "difficult public face for NBC in a time of war......He seems to delight in presenting guests who are anti-war, anti-Bush and skeptical of the administration's motives." The report went on to outline a possible nightmare scenario where the show becomes "a home for the liberal antiwar agenda at the same time that our competitors are waving the flag at every opportunity."

A source close to Donahue claims that while he wasn't aware of the specific study, the tone and outcome aren't surprising.

"It's not a coincidence that this decision comes the same week that MSNBC announces its hired Dick Armey as a commentator and has both Jesse Ventura and Michael Savage joining the network as hosts. They're scared, and they decided to take the coward's road and slant towards the conservative crowd that watch Fox News."

Rachel is symptomatic of what has happened since Comcast bought MSNBC. Rachel has made her choice. Other journalists have made their choice, too, and chose principle over this particular employer.

I have friends who have had to leave since the Comcast takeover. I know their stories and the callous way they were treated. It is Comcast's loss.

And using wiretapping to leverage politicians, journalists, activists, judges, attorneys and reps...threaten them with releasing personal info or borderline criminality and you can assure they they can elicit any outcome they wish. And if it's Hillary we all know she is an opportunist who disappears on the issue once the cameras are gone. Even most republicans are aghast at what happened in Flint. Saying you're courageous because you supported not poisoning the water is a real joke. A big joke. It's like saying I'm for the children. Really? We have two million people incarcerated in this country. Way more per capita than any dictatorship. How do you rationalize this? How do you pretend we are a decent country with decent leaders? Usually one measures how evil a country is by how many people are in work camps or prisons. That's the barometer we used for former communist countries. This has really opened my eyes to how he German people accepted fascism and Hitler from 1922-1945. 23 years it took those frogs to boil. We are very similar here. And two million in prison means 4 million children with broken families too. And you want me to think Hillary is some kind of hero? You have a lot of nerve I will say that.

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

This belongs in GD: P. This entire thread exists because Rachel called Hillary Clinton the likely Democratic Nominee in a discussion with a guest regarding the Supreme Court. She then did a segment simply talking about the Sanders campaign team talking about how they plan to win, which involves Super Delegates. She contrasted it with the campaigns previous statement on that issue.

This, apparently, has caused this member to throw a hissy fit. That's fine. That's their right. However, this belongs in GD: P.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Wed Mar 16, 2016, 09:32 PM, and the Jury voted 0-7 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I totally get why this was alerted on. But the OP does not explicitly mention the primary or why they are not watching Rachel any more. Clearly that is how people are taking it though, and the thread reads like a GDP thread, even if the OP does not. But this should have been a SOP alert, not that it is over the top. Even then, it would straddle the line. Seems to me ties go to the runner, or in this case the poster, so I vote to leave. But if I start seeing a lot of this sort of thing, maybe I won't be so forgiving in the future. The Admins made a concerted effort to clean up the front page of primary acrimony and we should respect that.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The "hissy fit" accusation is bullshit. LEAVE IT ALONE.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Utter nonsense of an alert. I guess Hill's alert stalkers don't care about the new found amnesty. Still sending joke alerts like this. If this isn't GDP, send it to the hosts or a TOS alert.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Alerter needs to get a life.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

And Clinton supporters wonder why Sanders and Warren supporters are so upset. If you are a Democrat and you are NOT upset about the corruption that has taken control of our party, then you are simply burying in your head in the sand so that you hear only what you want to hear.

Hillary's BFF Wasserman Schultz has sided with the GOP on payday lending. I am waiting for Hillary to come out and say if she she disagrees with her BFF Wasserman Schultz's support of payday lenders and Wasserman Schultz's tireless work to gut new rules intended to rein in predatory payday lending. Wasserman Schultz is getting tremendous flack from Democrats for siding with the GOP on this! These predatory practices need to be stopped asap. Preying on the poor is shameful to say the least. This one of the last things I thought the DNC chairman would ever support! Will Hillary support her BFF Wasserman Schultz on this or not? Long before this overtly anti-Democratic posturing by Wasserman Schultz petitions have been circulating demand she resign as DNC chair for many reasons.

Remember Hillary's gratuitous self-pitying comment about being 'dead broke"! Turns out in 1999, they bought a five-bedroom home in Chappaqua, N.Y., for $1.7 million. In December 2000, just as they were leaving the White House, they bought a seven-bedroom house near Embassy Row in Washington, D.C. The price was $2.85 million. It was, is, and always will be about her. She knew very well of the millions and millions she and Bill could and did make in speeches and numerous other activities. The "dead broke" comment, unbeknownst to her, gave us a look into her true character. She had no concept, no depth, of what that comment in just a few words revealed to us all about her and her core values.

Hillary once said she had a lot of work to do with Independents. She is blissfully unaware of what she has done to Democrats. Many are like me- having voted straight Democrat for many, many decades.

nothing in today's political reality.

The irony is that had we remained under UK control -- we'd have all the stuff you want, single payer healthcare, education, a better welfare system, higher taxes. etc. Now, we are going to have to compromise to get there. I think by settling we'll get there faster than by ranting and pouting if we don't get our way.

I'm not much on the founding fathers, almost all of them were racists who'd go home, after speaking/writing of liberty and such, and rape/beat their slaves.

"by ranting an pouting" Really? Your projecting is really getting into lala land. No wonder you cannot comprehend the idea of serious political discourse.

You statement "The irony is that had we remained under UK control -- we'd have all the stuff you want" shows precisely how you have absolutely no knowledge of what was really going on at that time and why so many early Americans gave their lives. In your eyes they were wasting their lives! So, in your opinion, we should, without question or complaint, have tolerated what we were experiencing and simply hoped for a better day!

You have revised American history like no one I know ever has. No wonder you are in a state of perpetual confusion!

By the way, my great, great grandfather, fighting for the Union was severely wounded on the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg, 7/1/1863, and was subsequently discharged due to the extensive nature of his injuries. No one in my family ever supported the Confederacy! Talk about giant leaps! LOL!

As someone who has completed post Masters Degree level work (completed grad school on a full Fellowship at a major University with honors) published several well received articles and has written hundreds of well received diagnostic reports containing recommendations that were shared with PH.D and M.D. professionals, may I humbly suggest I am not the one with reading and comprehension problems!

Get over yourself!

I never defended them. Who has SEVERE comprehension issues? I simply stated that all the Founding Fathers were not all the monsters you claim them to be- even after you admitted you knew very little about them!

Lincoln's opinion:
The founding fathers, said Lincoln, had opposed slavery. They adopted a Declaration of Independence that pronounced all men created equal. They enacted the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 banning slavery from the vast Northwest Territory. To be sure, many of the founders owned slaves. But they asserted their hostility to slavery in principle while tolerating it temporarily in practice. That was why they did not mention the words "slave" or "slavery" in the Constitution, but referred only to "persons held to service." "Thus, the thing is hid away, in the constitution," said Lincoln, "just as an afflicted man hides away a wen or a cancer, which he dares not cut out at once, lest he bleed to death; with the promise, nevertheless, that the cutting may begin at the end of a given time." The first step was to prevent the spread of this cancer, which the fathers took with the Northwest Ordinance, the prohibition of the African slave trade in 1807, and the Missouri Compromise restriction of 1820. The second was to begin a process of gradual emancipation, which the generation of the fathers had accomplished in the states north of Maryland.

I bet you think Lincoln was rotten too!

I watch what I watch on the internet. I used to watch Keith Olbermann faithfully, then he suddenly resigned. So I watched Rachel when I could. Sometimes MSNBC made it a bit tricky for those of us not on the standard system. But I watched her. About two years ago I started noticing that she was unreliable and pushing an odd agenda. It's probably been six months or more since I watched her regularly.

I really miss her, because she so often does such a good job of explicating a complex issue. But still, her -- or more likely her masters -- bias has become more and more evident.

These days I wake up every morning to Amy Goodman. She has her own sometimes odd biases, but I find it easy them out. Before and after her my local community radio station carries the BBC. I'm probably better informed than most people out there.

I also read the local newspaper, so I'm pretty up on local issues.

Back in the 1970s, another period in my life when I didn't have TV, a good friend of mine was honestly concerned that I wasn't up on the issues and events of the day. So he'd periodically quiz me, and was always astonished that I knew exactly what was going on. And this in the days before the internet. Back then I listened to NPR, and I read books. Yes, books. So I was much better informed on all sorts of things than most people.

So it is today. I listen to certain radio programs (BBC, Amy Goodman, Terry Gross, and sometimes Diane Rehm) and I read lots of books on all sorts of topics. Plus, of course, the internet. While my specific opinions can be subject to disagreement, my level of knowledge I'll hold up to anyone.

Oh, and I tend to do extremely well in Trivia contests.

what they really meant was that the Establishment would consider Hillary Clinton the presumptive nominee, there would be no more coverage for challenger Bernie Sanders and no more debates. The General Election has started so everyone should just pretend Bernie Sanders faded away.

Is that why they didn't cover Sanders' speech Tuesday?

So the Establishment has spoken and thus Bernie's coverage has ended....
