Republican Party commits electoral suicide if they block President Obama on a SCOTUS appointment

Obstruction in this appointment will bring a focus like no other on their TOTAL OBSTRUCTION of the President for all these years.

And they will have ZERO leverage with a newly elected President Sanders or Clinton.

Kennedy confirmed Feb 88, six months and a week or so from pillar to post, including the Bork failure. So it would be a marathon of obstruction as backdrop to election 2016. It becomes their entire job and constant subject matter.

It's a hugely winning platform.

Obama needs to appoint someone who will overturn Citizens United, and if the Republicans block his nominations then the Democrats had BETTER use that to retake the Senate and keep the Presidency.

There's basically no excuse here.

They'd never block it. We know this about Democrats. And the Republicans would call for their heads if they tried, and then the Dems would cave.

Sad state of affairs we have here. Hillary better not win the nomination or they'll definitely drag it out because they (rightly) think they can beat her.

Do they really want to go into an election with the Presidency, Senate and Supreme Court on the line? Voters will turn out in droves, and when that happens, Democrats win. Add to that the moderates and Independants who who be turned off by the obstruction and you're looking at a potential landslide.

If they were smart, which, of course, they are not, they'd use their leverage to get Obama to nominate a moderate. Otherwise, they risk losing over this issue and ending up with a Supreme court whose newest member is chosen by Hillary or Bernie and confirmed by a Democratic Senate. Hmmm... Go ahead and block it assholes.
