Direct TV and Fox News

I signed a two year contract with Direct TV about 16 months ago. What a huge mistake. The first 12 months the price was very reasonable, about $65.00 per month, with HBO, I'm a big Game Of Thrones fan and also because of John Oliver. After the 12 months were up, the price ballooned to over a hundred dollars a month. Yikes! I can't afford that. So I called Direct TV to get my package downgraded to about the same price as before. I ended up with a $85 dollar package with HBO which I could barely afford. And now that AT&T has bought them out, as soon as my contract is over, I'm cancelling them entirely and switching to Roku.

But my conversation with the Direct TV customer service representative went something like this.

CSR: Why do you want to downgrade? For the same price (a little over a hundred bucks) we can also give you an internet connection.

Me: No thanks. I just want to downgrade to a lower priced package.

CSR: Let me see. I can give you the Playboy channel for free for three months.

Me: The Playboy channel? Are you kidding me? No, I just want to downgrade. Please.

CSR: Look, the package that you now have includes Fox News. If you downgrade, you won't be able to get Fox News.

Me: Really? I wont be able to get Fox News?

CSR: (Triumphantly) That's right. Downgrade and you won't be able to watch Fox News. It won't be on your package. (If I could hear him thinking, he probably thought: "Got him, hook, line and sinker.&quot

Me: (Laughing) To begin with, I didn't even know that my current package included FOX News, but now that you confirmed that if I downgrade I won't be receiving the propaganda channel, I want to thank you for convincing me to downgrade.

CSR: (Dejectedly with a low voice) Okay, thank you and if there's anything further I could do, please let me know. Hold on while I confirm your decision to downgrade.

It left me wondering how many people he's convinced not to downgrade because of Fox News.

Has always had one of the better phone service systems and is very responsive. I hope AT&T doesn't screw it up. I get it because my wife wants the foreign language channels. Their phone service is so much better than Comcast.

I need to call and get rid of HBO and showtime now. The movies aren't great--we pretty much only watch Bill Maher, and my husband likes Homeland. We decided it's not worth paying the price to only watch 1 show per channel.
