It feels to me like the news reports are minimizing this because no one died? Did the police not have surveilance of the armed white supremacists who were protesting the BLM? If not, why not?

Maybe they had something about it later on in the broadcast, but I couldn't stand more than 15 minutes of their "coverage".

Terrorist attacks made the news when nobody died, not even the perpetrator.

If this was a Tea Party protest, you can be sure this would be breaking news on all the TV channels. Heck, they get coverage when six people have a 'rally', but it's up to us, call it what it is, invade the comments sections, make a Wikipedia article about it.

It's not altogether easy to follow the discussion because of the shorthand way of talking.
