(20,582 posts)Mine is not to get under anyone's skin, it's just support for a good, long-time DU'er whose presence and posts I miss seeing. I think that's the reason many have added the bug - nothing sinister in it.
(I removed the extra bugs, was just teasing you with them).

(18,101 posts)And there are many just like you. Then again, some are admitting to trying to annoy people.
I don't see them. I block them with a browser add-on, so they're not annoying me.

(45,319 posts)I have had sig lines blocked here for years because of the bug. Not the posters using it, the bug itself. I'm not at all thrilled to see that bug escape the sig lines as they make the page unpleasant for some of us.
So my request is please, keep your bugs in the sig lines so others can enjoy the site. I never complained about the bug, I just found out how to block it. I'd hate to have to place good posters I like on ignore just so I can read the page they are on.
I know I am not the only one. I also know the folks using the bug and the swatter are at war and thus do not care about those who are noncombatants in their line of fire. But if it was kept to the sig lines that would allow others to opt out, as I always have.
I put them around pintobean's hug just to tease him and then removed them very shortly after.
Check it out, and I'm sorry they bothered you.

(45,319 posts)political it's optical. Various moving gifs can cause me distracted eyes, it's not a big deal because I can hide the sigs. Thanks for understanding, and again it is not about the persons, but the twitchy optical effects!

(20,582 posts)Some who inserted 'extra' bugs I know did it for just a bit because they weren't happy to see the bug-squashers that they saw as grave-dancing over someone they cared about. I think they're mostly just in sigs now, so hopefully those they do bother are able to not see any at all.
I had no idea. I really don't see them.

(82,383 posts)I have instructed the moderators to lock new threads about chicken. If you must discuss chicken -- and, yes, I understand it is a *vitally* important topic in which you all have an intense interest -- please do so in one of the threads that was opened previously. Here's a good one:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...
Go post in there. Or post here.
I think that some of you are well aware that the discussions about chicken are not about chicken at all. The purpose of these threads is to dig up an old flame war and wave it in the faces of certain people, because you want to get under their skin. To their credit, those people have not taken the bait. But we really think that a dozen threads on a topic specifically intended to bait people is really enough.
But now we are in a completely idiotic death-spiral of enforcement and boundaries-testing. The mods lock a thread, and then three spring up. And so the purpose of starting threads about chicken is no longer about tweaking a few of your fellow DUers, it's now about tweaking the moderators.

By the way, bugs very well may be the new chicken. A good proportion of the world eat them. They are one of the foods considered for long term space flight. (Well, it's better than poop. See Packing for Mars by Mary Roach for details.)
Happy to DUrec this.

(62,534 posts)the crickets and spiders had virtually no taste, but the meal worms were great! I would eat them again in a heartbeat. They had a very unique nutty flavor that was delicious.

(14,177 posts)I don't see it as flame wars to have or not have a bug. The swatter seems like grave dancing it might border on a flame war. But, unless they are creating threads to rub it in then it's not really a flame/thread war it just shows poor taste.

(51,308 posts)However, I think the bug will die out on its own.
Serves 4 6
Ingredients:
4 cups cold cooked brown rice
1 ½ cups of roasted crickets (about 3 4 dozen)
1 cup chopped scallions
½ cup cooked corn kernels
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon Kosher salt
Powdered ginger to taste
Powdered coriander to taste
Garlic powder to taste
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper, or to taste
4 tablespoons oil for stir-frying, or as needed
1 ½ tablespoons light soy sauce or oyster sauce, as desired
Directions:
Wash and finely chop scallions. Lightly beat the eggs with salt, ginger, garlic powder, coriander and pepper.
Heat a wok or frying pan and add 2 tablespoons oil. When the oil is hot, add the eggs. Cook, stirring, until they are lightly scrambled but not too dry. Remove the eggs and wipe clean the wok or frying pan.
Add 2 tablespoons of oil. Add rice. Stir-fry for a few minutes, using wooden spoon to break it apart. Add crickets. Add scallions. Stir in soy sauce or oyster sauce as desired. Continue stirring for a few more minutes.
When the rice is heated through, add the scrambled egg back into the pan. Mix thoroughly. Stir in corn kernels. Serve hot.
This dish goes great with any other dish or appetizer, i.e., cooked greens, egg rolls, dumplings, etc.
