(297 posts)spinning as something that wouldn't happen in a state without antiquated recall laws. yes, this is important to the Wisconsin Democrats, but less important to the DNC and to BHO than winning the 2nd term. he doesn't want to give MR a talking point over a distracting issue.
that being said, it could hurt, but I'd like to see him do it. if he does, I suspect it'll be the day before the election with no more than a 24 hour advance announcement.

(34,658 posts)This is a Wisconsin thing. Obama can come when he is campaigning for President and help with the fall elections.
This election has nothing to do with President Obama.

(31,011 posts)I think it would backfire in a major way. He'd be accused of meddling and then the whole campaign would turn into outsiders coming into our state kind of thing. What it was really about would be completely forgotten.

(34,658 posts)Obama is too big a figure to bring in for a recall election.
If he comes to Madison or Milwaukee to campaign for Tammy Baldwin and our congressional candidates in October that will be awesome.

(10,337 posts)If he wins it will be because it was bought and paid for, not because of the will of the people. Does that mean that we the people will loose? Not necessarily (see Meg and Carly) but if Obama gets in and Barrett looses, the reich wing will have a field day. Better that Bill Clinton and Opra get into it. Better yet, the Dems start throwing big bucks at this to counter the Kochsuckers et al.

(34,658 posts)People made up their minds about Walker a year ago. Nobody here needs to watch a television ad to be told to vote Walker out.
Every one who can be convinced is going to get out and vote to kick his ass out.

(31 posts)We have to look at this on a much bigger stage. The GOP have taken this ill advised situation and turned into a national statement. They recognized early on that they could force a showdown that they held the upper hand, the weakness of low turnout, summer, single issue elections. They are attempting to snatch a major victory from the jaws of minor, fluke defeat..
They regrouped, while we overreached..
With their new found gift from the Supreme Robes, giving them incredible fund raising capabilities, they could break the will of the movement that was fueled by the amazing outpouring of support they stirred up by their attempt to strip the unions, and the dwindling middle class of the last vestige of fairness..
Unfortunately, last year, the sleeping Democrat voters allowed a small number of committed Baggers to steal an election. However, that was a mistake that turned into a backlash that woke up the sleeping giant that had and still could have set the stage for a groundswell of support nationally..
We took that outpouring of outrage and used it properly in Ohio, to stop what they thought was their momentum..
Wisconsin, may have taken it too far, and if we aren't careful, they could make all their dreams come true..
The majority of middle Americans don't like recalls, or recounts, and few are really paying attention to politics, unlike us who drink minutia like Gatorade. The Brass in Washington better pay attention to the ramifications of this conundrum, if we lose this the morons will try to make a mountain out of a true molehill.. jus sayin..

(4,186 posts)Both Barrett and Walker spoke of "special interests" during the debate. Neither defined the term. If Obama goes, he needs to go in to support Barrett's special interest "the 99%", the workers of America against Walker's One Percent "special interest" crowd.
In the end what does the recall mean?? If a loss means that the GOP will start to steamroll over worker rights anywhere and everywhere--if it is that big a deal... Then I think on moral grounds it should have been an all out battle for justice from which it would be dereliction of duty to stay on the side-lines.

(8,847 posts)They should get out their walking shoes and show Democratic Party unity.
Party leaders and DNC need to make a strong show of support for Barrett and against Walker.

(32,099 posts)Any time the President inserts himself into something, or is dragged into it by some journalist asking his opinion about it, it becomes about him. This has nothing to do with President Obama. It has everything to do with a corrupt governor. And, if Walker wins, this will be spun as a "HUGE loss for Obama" from now until November. Who needs that shit?
Besides, the people of Wisconsin are doing fine on their own. They organized the recall without the help of the President. They gathered over a million signatures without his help. They held primaries without his help. To say that now they can't carry the ball across the goal line without him now is rather insulting to them, IMHO.

(146,345 posts)The President will be in Minnesota next Friday. Perhaps he'll drop in on Wisconsin during that visit. I don't know. It's a short drive to Hudson, and he might just do that.
However, I suspect that whether he should visit or not has been discussed thoroughly, with the discussion including the Wisconsin folks. I don't know what's been decided.
