I am in need of representation before the IRS. Can anyone suggest how to go about finding a competent CPA who is also of a liberal mindset? I'm not looking for any favors, but I'd rather not end up dealing with some republican minded extremist.
I am in Wisconsin.
Thanks!

(18 posts)That's an excellent idea. I did check, but their site does not have any CPA (or related) ads. I started listening to the station more though to hear any on-air ads.

(37,573 posts)and a county chair and committee (or the nearest big city has such an organization). Contact the county chair and see if he/she/they know anybody. I know one here, but that does not do much good in Wisconsin. I am not a CPA, but I might be able to help myself, having somewhat of a finance background. You perhaps need a tax attorney as much as a CPA though, and many attorneys are somewhat liberal.
Soubds expensive too though. One other option, perhaps, is that here, for example, Catholic charities has VITA volunteers who assist people with their taxes. Voluntary Income Tax Assistance, but they may not know all the complexities of the tax code.

(18 posts)Another great idea. I called but no answer (probably left early for the holiday weekend). I also sent an email. I'll be sure to follow up on Tuesday.

I would be less liberal if I were in a different profession. I know too much.

(8,646 posts)to hopefully eventually be an accountant. I get what you are saying. Everytime I am in class learning something new - for instance about how to account for things like derivatives, I think about how a company uses that to benefit themselves and it makes me ill.

(3,575 posts)you would be better off hiring the most qualified person for the job.
Personal opinions about politics is NOT a qualification.

(18 posts)You're right of course. But given the choice between two equally qualified individuals, I'd rather sit at a desk where rush limbaugh isn't playing on the office radio.

(18 posts)Good point. I guess I could rephrase the question by substituting the word "experienced" in place of "democratic".
