Call me shocked. Morning Joe is leading their entire show with a pretty extensive segment on Bernie Sanders. They are covering the record breaking crowds and his message. Finally, at least someone is reporting the "news" of Bernie's campaign.

(14,733 posts)now the 'year of the Bern'...
They're still too short.
We're talking the decade of President Sanders. (Well, ok, a bit shorter, but fairly close to it, if you include the campaigns.)

(51,308 posts)I've been a longtime Clinton supporter, and I wish she had been our president for the last eight years.
At this point I'm undecided still, but I just don't see Bernie Sanders winning the general election.

(2,404 posts)I was able to get on the Thom Hartmann Show the other day and touched on my concern that Bernie couldn't survive the Socialist name calling he is sure to receive from the RW. Thom had an excellent response. He said that no one would have believed that an African American with a strange name could become president. He has a point. Maybe through an unstoppable grass roots effort, Bernie might just have a chance.

(54,445 posts)He's so right about the Bernie/Obama comparison (and not just because Thom plugged my book on his show! LOL!). What used to be unthinkable is now thinkable.
Voters, especially Democratic voters, don't always do as they're told any more, or even what they're expected to do. I agree with Thom--an unstoppable grass roots effort just might carry Bernie to the nomination. I personally see that as a long shot, but by no means an impossibility. However, if nominated, he will need more than that to cinch the November election. But the DNC is there to help the nominee, not take sides before the nominee is decided. They will do their job in 2016. It's up to the individual contenders to make their case up to then.
I think that, as in 2008, the Republican field, while vast, is SO weak that the battle for the Democratic nomination will end up being the battle for the presidency, which is why the stakes are so high, and are being so thoroughly scrutinized this time.

People said Obama had no chance, too. I just think HC doesn't have what it takes to excite people like Obama and Bern.

(51,308 posts)However, it's the older folks who vote consistently.
BarackTheVote
(938 posts)even the ones who normally don't vote. A voting demographic only doesn't vote consistently until they do. They're a major reason why Obama was elected and reelected, and they were also a huge part of his campaign apparatus.

If this holds, it could change MSNBC evening viewing back to something almost recognizable.

Joe and other republicans are living in their comfortable past. The new reality is catching up with them.
Too bad, so sad....
