Though they had kind of worked themselves into a hole by the third season: the whole logic of the thing argued for someone killing Hearst (a man like that portrayed could not live in a place like that, not for long), but history forbids the killing of Hearst, so they had to spin endlessly to avoid the natural climax.

But the thing was wonderfully done, splendidly written and constructed.
