Greg Palast on Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Posted on May 22, 2012

What a terrible task to take on at such a dark moment when I would prefer to keep my thoughts private, but someone must speak.

I am, and I hope you are, sickened to see Rupert Murdoch’s New York Post savage our colleague Robert F. Kennedy Jr. while he and his children are in great distress.
I will not answer, and thereby repeat, the cruel libels thrown at Kennedy by the Post.

But let me get this on the record: Kennedy is, and this is no exaggeration, the most committed family man I know. Every single day, he shuts down work, no matter the flood of urgent demands from around the world, for family time, for his kids. He is deeply religious, with a piety and intelligence he communicates with his family so impressive it makes me doubt my atheism.

Kennedy uses his family name, not to further his career, but to widen his children’s understanding and involvement in the world and to try to teach our ignorant nation lessons in moral conduct that his kids have already learned well. To blame Kennedy for his wife’s illness is just further proof of the conclusion of Britain’s Parliament that Murdoch is “unfit to run a newspaper.” But then, no one would say the NY Post is a newspaper.

Again, I want to extend the condolences of the entire Palast crew to Mary Richardson Kennedy’s family.

When Bobby’s grief and mourning pauses—because it will never end—we look forward to resuming our partnership with him.

But that makes sense. Why in the world would I be looking at the Murdoch "press" in the first place?

RFK Jr. rejects blame during eulogy at wife Mary Richardson Kennedy’s funeral

Don’t blame Bobby.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. shamelessly told a crowd of mourners at tragic wife Mary Richardson Kennedy’s funeral yesterday that her suicide was not his fault.

“I know I did everything I could to help her,” Kennedy said in his eulogy at St. Patrick Church in Bedford, where attendees included Chevy Chase, Larry David, Glenn Close and Susan Sarandon.

Kennedy, who was raspy and appeared tired, told the crowd that someone told him not to blame himself for Mary’s shocking suicide last week.

“The day before she died, she called me and said, ‘You know me better than anyone in the world,’ ” he said. “She said, ‘I was such a good girl.’ I said, ‘I know you are and you still are.’ She really fought so hard. She had these demons, and she didn’t deserve it.”

Mary, 52, hanged herself Wednesday in the barn of her Westchester mansion.

12. Murdoch should be locked up for what he and his papers have done to a lot of people. I am glad

Greg Palast spoke out. Mental illness can be a very sad issue for the whole family. And when it ends in suicide it is even worse because the family always wonders if they could have done more. As a social worker I dealt with this several times. One has to realize that they did all they could.

and his son James Murdoch. I hereby move that we make the definition of the word "murdoch" to mean "a nasty, cruel and viscous spreader of false accusations."

Subscriptions to that hateful and dishonest rag. The use of the word shameless was an accusation even though the 'reporter' had the details.

Kennedy didn't say he wasn't to blame, he quoted what someone else told him. This is more of their demonization of those with disabilities and blaming the victims, in this case, the entire family.

RFK, Jr.'s work on the behalf of the environmental and civil rights is scaring the foul fascists like the ones doing the mountain top removal. The stories of how bad that is are coming out and they want to hurt him. They bring out their attack dogs and go for it.

I am sick of these dishonest, cowardly people who attack someone when they're down, but then that was Tom Delay's motto and he orchestrated the sham crowd in 2000 to stop the votes being counted. Then we have these paid Goebbels in the media spreading hatred and disdain for others.

I wish that DU could do something to let the Kennedys know that we stand behind him and love and respect what he has been doing for 'the least among us,' but I don't know what it would be.
